RECALL FINALLY ISSUED ON 2021-2024 6.2L V8 (L87)

As of May 3rd, it looks like GM is extending the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for inspected/completed recall engines.

This is the right thing to do. I’m glad they’re stepping up and doing it. I can live with that extended warranty. Currently my truck has no P0016 code. I just need their recall inspection done, oil and filter change with new filler cap and an in writing extension of the warranty and I’m on my way.

Does the P0016 throw a CEL or is it just a stored code? Just curious. I might scan mine with my neighbors snap on scan tool. Mine is a 21' with 90k miles. I still need to crawl under and look at the sticker for date of manufacture of the engine.

I was told it’s stored. That was not coming from an expert. Rather a service advisor not a tech.

I have not bothered looking at my date of engine manufacturer date, my trucks a 2023 bought Jan 2023. I got the recall in my gmc app already so I know my trucks in the recall range.

My 2022 Sierra AT4 locked up last sat. driving 70 on the interstate, no engine noise or lights prior. The display said "Shift to Neutral and press Start", nothing. 62K miles. I guess we'll see how long the replacement takes to come in.
Similar situation with my Yukon. Vehicle has been in line for the new motor since March 21, 2025, with the only update being the parts are no longer on back order which means nothing to me coming from GM.

Hope you got a loaner and are getting somewhat taken care of. The first 10 days I was given no loaner with no eta on when one would be available. Now I'm in a 25' 5.3L Z71 Crew Cab cloth interior with minimal options that probably costs half of what I paid for the Denali.

Consider yourself lucky then......I got put in a Buick Encore GX....

To clarify the European oil 0w40 and Supercar 0w40 they are the same DexosR rating now. I own a C8 corvette and I’m on a long standing forum and this oil subject has been talked about for years there. The word there now is the European 0w40 is equal rating to the Supercar 0w40 now. I’ll use the much cheaper European 0w40 in my truck after they do the free recall change.

I just looked up my engine build date on my 2023, it was built Dec 20, 2022 and I purchased the truck new Jan 23, 2023. I’ve had no issues with the truck other than the CarPlay gateway module upgrade back Nov 18, 2024. Truck has 15k miles on it and I did an early oil and filter change on it at 1500 miles and it’s had 3 oil and filter changes since that one. Doing one early might have flushed and contaminants out early, I can only hope so.

GM has FINALLY done it. They've FINALLY issued a recall on the 2021 - 2024 6.2V8 that is subject to"lifter failure" in our trucks and multiple other GM models. Check your GMC apps, but here's a screenshot from mine.

This may be breaking news because i'm not seeing it on gmauthority.com or any of the news sites!

Does anybody know what the "inspection" procedure is?

Inspect block label, dump oil and inspect, check for crankshaft code. Contaminated oil and/or stored code new engine. Passes inspection they change your oil to 0w40, change oil cap, add supplement to manual, and add 10 years 150k miles to your engine warranty.

If you're talking about the Corvette Forum, I'm on the C7 side and see oil threads pop up every other day. I've just decided to stick with 5w30 since I don't track it and it's cheaper.

I didn't realize that if our engine has already been replaced, or for the engine's not listed in the recall, we're supposed to stick to the 0w20 oil.

Yes I’m on the C8 forum there. Constant oil threads concerning 0w40 lol

Yea I find that crazy. I’m fine with just using 0w40, I don’t think the engine should had ever been spec’d to use 0w20.

I was told this morning by the lady who is in management with my dealer that GM is internally investigating and going to narrow down a series of engines that will need replacement regardless if they pass the inspection and have no issues. That information is to come out soon from within GM. So you are not out of the woods on this with no P0016 code visible. I’m hoping mines an oil change no code no bad engine list and give me the extended warranty. But I’ve pulled my engine build date and seems my truck is smack dab in the middle of the possible all bad ones even though it’s running fine. Engine build date was Dec 20, 2022.

Where did you find that info about your engine?
