RECALL FINALLY ISSUED ON 2021-2024 6.2L V8 (L87)

It wasn't stated earlier in this posting......but if you get the extended warranty, will it be transferable to the next owner???? If not, you're stuck with a vehicle no one will want. My engine number is 24075, so mine was built mid March and falls into the new engine category. However, everything is still confusing. My truck is at the dealer, dealing with excessive wind noise. They have no clue yet what will be done with my truck. I almost prefer the extended warranty as long as it's transferrable. I only keep my trucks about five years and 35K miles, but I want to be able to sell it for top dollar as I keep them nice with low mileage.

I'm kind of praying they take it for a test drive and total it. I'll take the cash and buy a new 540HP Ram.
factory warranties extend to new owners. are we sure that the new motor doesnt come with a new warranty?

This is EXACTLY what I did. Only my engine failed with just under 22k on the clock. Dealer told 6-8 weeks once they ordered the replacement engine. I didn't want to wait and I had zero confidence in a replacement 6.2L engine so I traded it in and financed the difference for a 2025 RAM RHO, which surprisingly enough wasn't much more than my 2024 AT4X, and I haven't looked back. It's a risk buying a first year model with a new powerplant but so far it's been a blast! I've filed a lemon law case too so we'll see what comes of that. Basically for the exact reason you're saying....now that it's public knowledge and there's a full blown recall for these engines, the market value is going to crash on these vehicles. So that's the basis for the case....diminished value. And the fact that GM isn't AT THE VERY LEAST starting the powertrain warranty over on replacement engines....tells me all I needed to know.

I’m sure others who are calling your dealers are experiencing the same, but my local dealer is still “unequipped” to handle the recall. They say it may still be a few weeks.

I guess GM had to issue the recall because of NHTSA, but they should have not offered “book service now!”.

Agreed - I was told until the paper comes in the mail to instruct bringing the vehicle in just continue with standard operating procedures. A dealer might have the ability to do the current work right away but we may end up hearing there's more to this than an oil change and a cap.

Mine was replaced last September and I didn't receive an extended warranty.
Interesting. Anyone I’ve ever known to have a full engine replaced received like 3 years on their new engine. I mean if the vehicle is 1-2 years old I guess that would make sense just to continue on the 5 year factory warranty.

Again this is full engine replacement that I’m shocked it wouldn’t have a warranty with it. I get it your engine goes down but it’s just repaired then your warranty wouldn’t change.

Mine was 9 months old at the time of replacement.
I guess I should go into more explanation. Technically, I'm not sure if I have an extended warranty so I just assume I don't. I asked both my dealer and GM customer service and they both said they're not sure. GM did extend my Onstar service which I don't use, extended the access to be able to use the app as a remote and gave me $250 to spend on accessories.

Mine was replaced when the truck was at 52k miles and a little over 3yrs old. I asked about a new warranty and was told no additional warranty on the engine, just the remainder of the 5yr/60k mile.

Also, no idea how this new recall will work, but the engines that they have been replacing in the past due to spun main bearings aren't completely new "crate engines". It was a new bottom end with a rebuilt top using remanufactured parts. Hopefully it's different this time around!

Hello,

I was active on this forum when I first got my truck. Hoping my experience will help some here.

2022 Refresh, 118,000 miles, motor seized 6 weeks ago while driving. Had Low Oil warnings but never low on dipstick for a few moths sporadically before it blew. Had check engine light sporadically for a few weeks before it blew. No warning or signs when it blew, other than my truck would not accelerate.

While on the side of the road waiting on my brother with the trailer, I was googling how to get it into neutral. You have to disconnect the rear parking brakes so they disengage, and then take a wrench and grab the nut on the trans where the cable comes in. Then turn it quarter turn and tape it to the trans in place(seriously, this is the only way, I checked with the dealer)

I am buddies with the manager at the dealership, they kept me posted along the way. Started out as a $14,000 repair bill. Was able to get that to $7,000 through GM about a month ago while waiting on replacement engine.

My truck will be ready tomorrow, I just got official word it was covered under the recall and I owe nothing. Will report back tomorrow when I pick it up about warranty status. Good luck all!

This is one of the higher mileage failures I have seen. I have 92K on my 21' and I thought will so many miles maybe I was in the clear. Seeing yours makes me have 2nd thoughts.
