RECALL FINALLY ISSUED ON 2021-2024 6.2L V8 (L87)

This is one of the higher mileage failures I have seen. I have 92K on my 21' and I thought will so many miles maybe I was in the clear. Seeing yours makes me have 2nd thoughts.
I was in the same boat as you. I thought I was in the clear as it seemed to happen in the first 60k miles. I do a lot of highway driving and only tow maybe twice a month. I tend to drive like an old man which is why i think it held together this long.

I was outside my warranty obviously, so I was told I get a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty which I thought was fair.

Time for a LP5.

Mine was replaced when the truck was at 52k miles and a little over 3yrs old. I asked about a new warranty and was told no additional warranty on the engine, just the remainder of the 5yr/60k mile.

Also, no idea how this new recall will work, but the engines that they have been replacing in the past due to spun main bearings aren't completely new "crate engines". It was a new bottom end with a rebuilt top using remanufactured parts. Hopefully it's different this time around!
I got my Yukon back 53 days later from being down.

I am doubtful they are doing one for one rebuilds or using anything from the internals, which is most of the parts being replaced.

FWIW, My dealer had parts/motor in hand Thursday last week and told me they'll have the vehicle back on the ground Monday so maybe 2-3 days tops to put the new one in. I will ask again but afaik they said all new motor, new radiator, new battery all accessories were reused from the bad motor. Standard warranty is still in place as it came from the lot new it does not reset as of now.

This new oil type they’re going with is very expensive and cannot be bought locally in my area. I know because it’s the same oil brand and type my 2024 C8 Corvette with the 6.2 uses. I get it off Amazon for $65 a 6 qt case and my vette takes 8 QTs. It’s Mobil1 0w40 Supercar oil.

This whole ordeal on a $85k truck is pissing me off and the way GM is handling it makes it even worse. My truck only has 15k miles on it it’s a 2023 and I rarely drive it so my warranty will expire and I might have 30k miles on it. Then it blows up out of warranty and is basically still a low mileage truck. Ridiculous!
Then sell it. Complaining on the internet does nothing but make you more upset. Shit happens. You're not going to change it. All you can do is react and handle your business IF it even happens to you.

I’d sell if I could but no one wants a vehicle with a failed engine. I’m not trying to change anything you seem to be the one pissed off not me. I’m in line just like everyone else in this. Go take a chill pill.

EDIT--- The end of the above video answered my question.

Question for the panel here...if GM is going to use 0W-40 for engines that have a code, is there any detrimental impact to switching to that oil ahead of time? I live in MN and temps get subzero commonly in the winter.

Without getting into the weeds, use what the manufacturer says to use until they say otherwise.

I took my AT4X in for the radio recall work this morning and they said they have the open recall for the motor fix but the dealer I took it to is refusing to follow the recall instructions because of wavering instructions from GM.

The dealer told me if GM finalizes the instructions for the recall they will do it but until further notice GM only published the recall to satisfy the NHTSA *gasp*.

My brother sent me the drive article today that says 9 plaintiffs in Pennsylvania are trying to sue GM for the recall for 0w-40 reducing their gas mileage. No idea how that will pan out but in the mean time I would rather have a brand new motor than some settlement of potentially lost gas savings.

It’s my understanding dealerships are not doing annything until the official letters from GM are sent out in June.

My dealer told me they've received the tools to do the recall work and have scheduled me for next Monday. I'd check with yours again, everyone.

That's certainly the case here in Idaho. Just for grins I went to a couple of dealers to"trade" my truck in on another vehicle.........NOPE, no dealer will take it due to a recall with "no remedy."

I just got a trade value today. No mention of refusing to take it on trade.

I wonder what would happen if I went to trade mine in with a new engine installed this past February? This engine is not included in the recall (thankfully), so I wonder what they'd give me. Purely curiosity driven, I have no interest in trading it in. I've had it all of 7 months and now that I have a new engine, I plan to keep it a while.

I got a trade value just in case I have to offload in a hurry.
