RECALL FINALLY ISSUED ON 2021-2024 6.2L V8 (L87)

Well that's just a lie by your dealer. You need to find a new dealer.
Not a lie there is an internal investigation by GM based on engine numbers and they’re tracing back the suppliers as we speak. Those affected engine numbers get a new engine without any inspection or oil change. The letter will be coming but in meantime your selling dealer in my case which has been around 60 years will contact me personally before I get a letter because they’ll know in a week or two from GM on the bad supplier affected engines. I had a lengthy conversation with my dealers management today on this very subject. It’s all a bit cloudy at the moment since the recall release. In a nut shell GM will know exactly which vehicles are affected before long. Based on engine build date and who the parts supplier was for that engine build. The overall recall is basically open ended at this point on the 6.2 between 2021-2024 but not all are affected from the bad supplier parts. Reason they stamp the engine build dates and know where the parts for said engine come from and when. I’d rather be the guy who is inspected on good faith by them knowing I’m not affected and get the oil change and the extended warranty. Sadly not every engine will meet that criteria.

After talking to GMC customer care I was told a letter will come out soon no exact date
But until then do not put 0-40 oil in your vehicle because this can void your warranty
If you’re vehicle calls for 0-20 even if you are due for oil change now until the official letter comes out use the manufacturer specific oil 0-20 until after your inspection

If GM is able to trace exactly which vehicles are affected, and I mean IF, they will never tell the full extent. Right now they are saying the affected vehicles have an engine build date of March '21 to around May '24. I don't know when my engine was built but the truck was assembled January '21, so probably December '20. No recall for me, yet my engine seized with spun bearings at 52k miles. They aren't going back far enough.

My question is, what about engines that have been replaced during the supposed faulty period? My new engine was built in April '24 so it falls in the recall timeframe. It should get the inspection and whichever fix it is due (hopefully the extended warranty I never got with the replacement!). VIN currently show no recalls. Feels like there's still a lot of owners that are going to be taking the shaft on this.

Yes I see your situation and totally agree that yours should fall under the recall. I think I read and I could have interpreted it wrong but this is the reason the techs are to log the build date code on their inspection procedure. To see if said engine had been replaced prior to recall. I think you might end up with the extended warranty in the end due to that replacement engine being built during the bad supplier range of engines or a whole new engine. Just thinking out loud but if I were you I would pursue this in that manner. Exceptions have been made in the past no reason it can’t happen now. Good luck!

I see some talking about going to a thicker oil. It may not be true but heard that these new engines have to use the thinner oil because some of the ports are small due to the thin oil and a thicker oil would have problems getting through them. Then you’d have issues of not getting enough oil. Like I said, might not be true but just what I’ve heard

If you're talking about the Corvette Forum, I'm on the C7 side and see oil threads pop up every other day. I've just decided to stick with 5w30 since I don't track it and it's cheaper.
Will going with the 5w30 become a warranty issue if the engine fails again?

Say my 6.2 gets replaced under this recall, do I just get the remainder of my powertrain or does the clock start over with a fresh 5yr/60k?

You just have the remainder of your original 5/60 warranty. Only ones with no replacement and pass the so called recall inspection qualify for the 10/150 extended warranty.

It wasn't stated earlier in this posting......but if you get the extended warranty, will it be transferable to the next owner???? If not, you're stuck with a vehicle no one will want. My engine number is 24075, so mine was built mid March and falls into the new engine category. However, everything is still confusing. My truck is at the dealer, dealing with excessive wind noise. They have no clue yet what will be done with my truck. I almost prefer the extended warranty as long as it's transferrable. I only keep my trucks about five years and 35K miles, but I want to be able to sell it for top dollar as I keep them nice with low mileage.

I'm kind of praying they take it for a test drive and total it. I'll take the cash and buy a new 540HP Ram.

So I might have confused you with that post. I'm using 5w30 in my Corvette since that's what it called for when it was built. In 2019 GM said all C7's could use either 5w30 or 0w40.
I'm still using 0w20 in my truck. I would think there would be a warranty issue if they found out you're using 5w30 in your truck.
