2024 2500 AT4 - Issues (1 month in review)

Coffeeman76 wears silk panties. Should probababy state your age when posting. That would help the rest of us filter relevent content or not. It is an HD truck. Who the F@ck cares. Use it for what it was intended.

Exactly. Thank you. My HD tows like a madman, and somehow manages to be a pleasure to drive. I even just dragged an abandoned RAM 2500 with no wheels off a power line trail. The f'ing RAM flipped on its side after about 500yds, but I manager to drag it out that way, felt easier actually.

I expect my AT4 HD to be truly HD, I don't expect it to give me a full-service back rub.

Cool story bro....

Should create a new post for all the 24' AT4 owners who drag abandoned vehicles off power line trails. Bound to be a huge group.

I should. We drag out at least 4 a year off a 3/4 mile section. I can report back to you if the entertainment system read my text messages to me properly....you know....the real purpose of a 3/4 ton truck....

You two should get a room.
Too busy dragging these trucks off the power lines on their sides for any of that nonsense.

Never any question about what it would pull. But the majority of HD owners (especially non-business or AT4 and up trims) use the HD capability of the vehicle a fraction of the time in operation. The rest is running down the same paved road or sitting in the same traffic as everyone else.

So it is a shame GM designers can't actually walk and chew gum at the same time. In this case put out a near 6 figure truck that can play local forestry wrecker service AND read a freaking text message.

To all the bystanders, I apologize for my behavior in this thread. I come in here to offer advice in my expertise areas to guys who need help: Towing, rigging, recovery, winching, electrical. I don't care about, and know nothing about sound systems, but to each his own, I completely respect that. It's the pissin' moaners that irritate me. They're lucky they didn't have my mother. She had no time for whining and sensitivity issues.

For the record: I never attacked his wife. I sympathized with her. She got tired of the whining (as would any good woman), so he came in here and whined to us. blah blah blah cry me a river.

Coffeyman, I apologize to you too. My jabs are man to man razzing. I should use emoji's to convey that. An old military guy like me only hangs with other guys like me. We verbally destroy each other, and laugh our real life problems aside. Seriously, sorry about everything.

Accepted sir. Edited my junk above.

Thank you for your service.

Everyone, thanks I agree discussion is good, I'm learning a lot about AT4 HD issues. This forum is labeled "Issues" - that word implies to me a place about complaints and negative experiences to give readers a heads-up. That word also doesn't mean "help" necessarily, so advice like electric winch hookups to the AT4 HD battery tabs to clean up debris (which I'd like to hear) should be elsewhere - that expertise & experience like rick25s is welcome, but should be in another thread. (Unlike most here, bought it used, '22 AT4 HD w/ most options) I don't tow trucks off of powerlines like folks here seem to be doing (!!), but do tow the worst kind of cargo: very high-center of gravity, moves around yet can't be strapped down, and fragile (horses). But that has nothing to do with AT4 issues.

I don't have an AT4 HD, but a 23 AT4X. Some of these issues I have noticed also. The "tailgate down" button right where you accidentally hit it all the time. Just a disaster waiting to happen for those of us that pull trailers, or have stuff in the back of the truck (I am a contractor) that will fall out while driving. Why in the hell would the tailgate go down while driving anyway? I got the GM box web thing simply because I can't risk losing thousands of dollars of tools out of the back of my truck in case the tailgate down button is accidentally hit.

The operating system is a bit slow. I blame GM for using outdated OS and not an optimized OS. Android is fine, but you can't be running 4 year old OS stuff. Plus you need to have a good enough mobile processor/ram/etc to not be laggy, and I don't believe that GM is using stout enough processor/ram/etc. I have a carplay box (usb-C in as an apple airplay but runs full Android) as my full time operating system for most things. Yes, even this is a little laggy/slow, but it gives me tons of more options - full android and any android app can be installed and used as normal - to be able to use the big display for. I do wish one could maximize the display and get rid of the right 3rd being a clock or smaller nav maps. However, I use Nav a lot to get to different/new jobsites, so I utilize the right 3rd as my Nav map quite often. Not a huge issue or deal for me, but would still like to be able to maximize the main screen for the full display if I wanted.

Starting this past friday, my rear camera mirror started glitching. Half the time it works, half the time now it doesn't. I suppose I will have to take it in the GM if it keeps doing this. Plus, the night time view on my 23 AT4X rear view camera mirror is not nearly as good as it was on my 2020 AT4. Odd.

There are other things I am not very fond of, but overall this is a very nice truck. No manufacturer makes a perfect vehicle, and I still like the looks of the GM/GMC's better than other brands. All of them can be made to look very nice with wheels/tires/lift or level/etc. But still like the GM styling the best, been that way since the 2008 GM body style became available.
Already had the tailgate dropped on my head by my brother trying to unlock the truck and then I did it.

I just traded a 2019 Ram 1500 for a 23 AT4 HD. There are so many things that were standard on a Ram Laramie that aren't included in preferred At4 package. Honestly, I need the 2500 and Ram didn't have a gasser anywhere near me. I figured what the hell! Other than Android Auto, this truck has less tech and options than my 2014 Ram 2500 did. And it really is 1st world problems. Sunroof: you cant go from open to tilt and vice versa. You have to close whatever option you are using then press other option. In the Ram just press the button you want. Auto sensing wipers on every Ram I have owned since it was an option. Only in the Premium package on the GMC. I do like my truck. I absolutely loved my 2014 Ram 2500 and the 2019 1500 was my favorite truck ever.
The more I drive this AT4 the more I miss my ram and everyone has there opinion but most of them haven’t had as manny trucks as I have or miles my 03 had 318k on it when it was stolen from me :( best 5.9 you could ask for my 08 my buddy still has and it’s had a hard life …. My ford 6.0 …… nope don’t wanna talk about it a few 1/2 tons in there dodge and GMC a 18 and a 20 Cummins (tons of issues) on the 20 but I am starting to feel like I really don’t like this truck, motors great ride is unreal tech is trash, exhaust sounds good especially with active exhaust. Seats are super comfy HUD is great truck looks beautiful but already back seat rattle issues and speakers ratting I used to think Bose was the best but come on even my 2500 rams came with subs from the factory …. Not the best but decent. I have a 2500 AT4 still on order so we will see if I end up getting it or not I would love to know what some other 2500 guys think about the 24s. I don’t tow that heavy anymore max is 8k and I know this truck will do it just fine. But for the price of premium why not just get a diesel again with more than the damn 26 gallon tank or whatever this 5 gallon can of a fuel tank is .

Going from my 19’ rebel with alpine system to 24’ 2500 at4 Bose the rebel had a lot more bass and loudness. The Bose is a whole lot of meh.

On my 24 2500 AT4 gas my main complaints are the seats, footrest and stupid tailgate release button placement…The AT4 seat is almost brick hard…a 4 hour trip and my ass was numb. I absolutely despise these seats. They look beautiful that’s about it….The drivers footrest is way too high to be comfortable..I hate it…Lastly the tailgate release button is right in the middle of the conceal cubby and if you unknowingly touch it your tailgate will drop and you will never know it cuz there is no prompt or light that indicates the tailgate is down.

You could probably take the dash apart and disconnect that switch. I really dont see a need for it.

I have an AT4X on order and did one nice test drive. The seats seemed OK, not as firm as the regular AT4. But out of curiosity, I test drove a 24 Lariat F250 with Ultimate and Tremor packages. The Ford seats are much more comfortable, and noticeably softer to the touch. Even though the AT4X has the 16 way + massage, I would take the seats out of that Lariat in a second. Both trucks have advantages. I have never owned a Ford of any kind, and perhaps never will, but that truck impressed me. I give the Sierra credit for much better exterior looks (subjective of course), auto 4WD (very nice in Colorado), suspension, steering feel, and the driver screen. Ford, I prefer the trucky center stack, location of most all controls (transfer case and E locker nicely grouped and readily accessible), seats, and field of view. I have not tested a RAM 2500 as their 6.4 gasser has the cylinder deactivation / management. I'll never get another motor with that "technology" again.
