2024 2500 AT4 - Issues (1 month in review)

Mine works seamlessly between my home wifi when parked in or next to my home and my iPhone hotspot when travelling anywhere. The only time I had to reset/reconnect was last week when the truck was at the dealer for the Putco Tailgate light install; I believe they disconnected the battery while installing it and that may have upset the system.

Getting rid of this truck on the 5th…. What a POS. So disappointed because I really wanted this to be a truck I loved.

You have / are getting rid of the 1/2 ton? Are you waiting on a 2500 too? I imagine you are moving on to a different brand if yours has been very bad.

I am curious what else went wrong. If I remember correctly, you were considering the diesel 2500?
This is why everyone should have the details of their truck inserted in their own signature line. Prevents much of these questions.

Were there any other issues than the rattle? I don't recall.
Yea my glove box won’t open, the back seat after they “fixed” it won’t come down unless you yank on in stupid hard, my drivers side door panel rattles worse than a straight axle dodge. And for some reason my info system only comes on 80% of the time I have to shut it down and restart it. Pretty sure I am going back to a dodge. Or maybe …… maybe a 2500 chev. It sucks my brother bought his truck at the exact same time and it has zero issues. As a matter of fact, he doesn’t have one rattle inside his cab of his RST Silverado.

Minute so hard because I had issues with my Dodge too, but it was also a Covid truck. I have never had any issues with any other Dodge I’ve ever owned.

Not sorry to bump this thread and wish I had found it sooner, hopefully GMC reads it and makes the platform better for you guys that enjoy these trucks but if you're looking to purchase I recommend spending more time inside the truck than a few test drives, if you already have one and enjoy it to each their own.

2024 1500 AT4 6.2 in Storming Gray, trading in after 2 weeks ($5k hit) after pretty much agreeing with the OP on all fronts (back to Ram). $75k msrp, got it for about $64k during memorial day.

-Best looking truck, no complaints on the outside (minus the non-led plate lights but you can swap)
-Like that the sport mode doesn't reset on shutoff
-Drivetrain was ok, didn't care for the 10 speed personally and can only temporarily turn off auto start/stop (not a huge deal), wish it stayed off in sport mode.
-Assumed the refreshed infotainment would operate and perform like new technology but what a piece of garbage, so many pop-ups, google profiles, no hd-radio, slow interface, slow map, wireless carplay glitches, etc.
-Audio is trash, expect to upgrade if you enjoy music
-Ranchos should be replaced
-Interior looks nice but found the seats flat/uncomfortable after going on a long trip. ]
-Back seats are basic
-Hybrid floor mats are silly
-Center console with the boat shifter/trailer brake is a waste of space
-Did I say good looking truck?

Coming from previous F-150/Sierra 2500/Ram 1500, looking forward to a Ram Tungsten or Ramcharger trim in a few years!

7. Instead of changing the center area by the cupholders they just cut corners and left you with a giant brake controller consuming half that valuable real estate. In 20 years I've used that thing twice on my vehicles, probably wasn't needed either time. Total cop out instead of finding a proper dash location. But hey you get the half inch deep former 1500 shift lever pocket that is worthless. What goes in here? Fits a can of dip maybe, or the truck key. That is it. Could have easily been any number of useful things. Unreal laziness on the part of GM.

8. Look, USB and USB-C tucked in an awful place! Right beside the cupholder. One beverage tip and those are DEAD, not to mention the cord now sits in the middle of your storage area. One tug or bump and those will be loose and shorted. Simply the worst place in the truck you could put those. They won't last a year. And yes, you will cut your hazard lights on multiple times reaching down into the main storage area to grab anything because they put it right there, in the middle, where you would store and reach for anything.

9. Upper glove box rattles and opens maybe 50% of the time. I haven't even had the heart to dig into that yet.

10. Sliding back window (an upgrade I think). GM probably took a 1500 window/mechanism and slapped it in because the window is half size - meaning you have border/plastic (not glass) taking 25% of the bottom and 25% of the top. Mini - window. Another example of laziness on the part of GM.

11. All of the little cute rubber bottoms GM threw in pockets, door handles, cup holders, etc? GONE if you run a vacuum. Nothing is affixed, just thrown in there.

12. The cameras are a highlight of the truck EXCEPT it has the smallest rear view mirror (and digital view) I've seen in a while. It is smaller than my wife's sedan. Minor gripe I suppose but I can see where GM would cut 40% of their mirror size because it had a digital screen in it and they wanted to save money. And as I mentioned before they don't use all the bi screen either, maybe 2/3.

13. Have a trailer and put on your turn signal, get a great blind spot turn view on the screen. Want that just when you are driving the truck in a tight area or heck down the interstate and want some extra blind spot verification? Tough. Can't seem to get that to be an option unless I have a trailer attached.

14. Use a carwash and want to deploy your running boards? Be prepared to get deep into an Android menu somewhere. Meanwhile there are a few blank physical buttons that could have easily controlled that.

15. Speaking of the running boards. Getting in it is fine. Getting out, more than half of the running board is UNDER the truck. They don't deploy far enough to be anything more than a heel catcher getting out.

16. Nice digital dash with ONE color option and 3 ways to customize. No image capabilities (album thumbnail, blind spot camera, etc.) - just one of the presets GM decided was enough for you and text.

17. Tiny little round lock knob on the door. But they just couldn't bring themselves for that to be flush or fully down when locked could they? Feels nice on your elbow if you want to put your arm out of the window.

18. Buried lights, 2x 4x and hud controls down low or behind the wheel. Learn it with your eyes closed because you can't easily see any of them.

19. Like the lumbar adjustment? Good, because in and out is all you get - I guess we are all shaped the same because who needs to move that up or down at all? They had this option 10 years ago, why was it removed?

Alright, I'm done. I feel better I guess. Just confirmed by typing this that there is no way to fix half of this stuff GM screwed up. Been looking forward to this truck for months but sadly it is time to move on. Good luck to those who have and love these trucks, they are impressive in many ways but for me GM simply cut too many corners and made too many poor decisions that center directly around how I interact with the truck in almost every way.
A good venting session can be therapeutic. I’ll join in here so it’s all in one place GM’s marketing and customer service teams can ignore:

Your post didn’t get into some of my biggest pet peeves, like the lousy stereo and the absence of any 12 volt outlets for things like a fridge, camera battery packs, radar detectors, spotlights, flashlights, dash cams, etc. No standard upfitter switches either and, now that the switches are available as a post-purchase option, they’re over $500 with the harness extension required for installation, the installation requires disassembly of the dash and center console, and the recommended switch mounting location is facing down in the dash trim panel immediately above the gauges. To flip an accessory switch all you have to do is reach through the steering wheel… What could possibly go wrong? Once you’ve done all this you still have to run power through the firewall if you’re powering accessories outside the cab, like fog lights or ditch lights.

Why not mount an accessory switch panel safely overhead in front of the sunroof, with fused power lines inside and outside the cab, like other makes?

Why no capless fuel fill? No glasses case/holder? Why no electrically adjustable steering wheel and pedals to accommodate spouses or other family members of varying heights? Why no light under the hood? Why does a $106,000 truck come with a low-end stereo that’s worse than the standard entry-level stereos in Dodges, Jeeps, or Hondas? Matching Dodge, Jeep, Ford, Toyota, Honda OEM sound quality would cost only a few dollars per truck at the factory, but fixing it after the fact costs at least $2000. Few of us want GM’s mediocre subscription services when superior navigation is available for little to no cost… It’s irritating to have the persistent pop-ups… And what if the rumors about GM eliminating support for CarPlay are true? Ripping out all the GM technology and replacing it with an aftermarket system that’s fully functional and integrated with all cameras/components is likely to be a $10,000+ investment.

There’s much more to bitch about, and I’ve already done plenty of that in other threads, but here’s the bottom line for me: The GMC stuff that matters most and is hardest to change/fix is great. The body, motor, transmission, and suspension are all very good. Hard seats can be fixed, though I’m not sure how that would effect the massaging feature.

It’s true that GM shit the bed on many little things and a few bigger things… In aggregate, these failures are extremely irritating, but all of them can be fixed with time, patience, and money — and probably less money than trading now, so I’m committed.

I just sold my Ford Raptor. We loved that truck, mostly, and my bitch list was short, but the ecoboost is no Duramax. The Ford also had an enormous sunroof that heated up the cab in the summer, leaked in the winter, and had to be repaired twice. The Ford doors leaked and then the latch mechanisms would freeze in the winter. Until that warranty repair was made, the door latches would freeze in the open position in temperatures below 25 degrees. That made travel in the snow a real adventure until we could heat the doors with a space heater. My point is, all the big three auto makers have their challenges.

Unless the GM engine, transmission, or CPU fail on me, I’ll keep whittling away on the deficiencies until the irritations fade. I probably would not do all of this again, but I do love the great parts of the truck more every day and, thanks to help from guys on this forum, I’ve already brought the stereo up to mediocre, added decent lights, and found a clean solution for navigation and switching accessories (as long as GM doesn’t eliminate CarPlay.)

I have to agree the 2500 AT4 seats are the most uncomfortable truck seats I’ve ever had.
There’s another thread describing the fix. If I find it I’ll include a link, but it amounts to going to a competent upholstery shop and having the seat reshaped to contour like Ford/Dodge with better types of foam. I can’t remember if he also added Katzkin leather.

Yes, that was @Master Chief BT. He used Katzkin and I believe a local shop made the foam.

I’ve seen the thread and that is a fix for sure…I just can’t believe GM signed off on the comfort of this thing. Other than that I’m super happy with my truck.
