1500 AT4 aftermarket wheels and tires - what do you have?

Thank YOU, for giving me real information! It’s what I came for!

Haha, you’re right! The funny part is that I never even asked for an opinion on the lift. Some people can’t help themselves, tho! They think everyone should know how THEY feel, and should feel the same way. I understand tho, I’ve been a member of numerous other forums and they’re all basically the same. The pros outweigh the cons though, as far as valuable information.

Keep on, keeping on!
That’s exactly why I said it was just my .02 cents and just my opinion. I had a RC lift with their shocks on a Rubicon Unlimited and they were horrible. You didn’t ask for my response, but I didn’t want you to possibly make a mistake thinking it would be comparable to your “$100,000 Ram TRX”. You be you, I’ll just STFU and if you are unknowing that’s on you. Enjoy.

Opinions can be very beneficial, especially if people have experience with the equipment in question. I always appreciate the different perspectives as it adds more data points for my decision making process. You just have to accept it for what it is and not argue about it.
Oh, I completely agree!! It’s one of the greatest benefits of forums! But, I just don’t think the community is benefiting from “Rough Country BAD”. Like I stated in my previous post tho, I left open the opportunity to expand on “Rough Country BAD”.

I’ve derailed this thread from its topic long enough, I apologize!

Any real world experience and opinion is greatly appreciated.

And just so you know, I used your tactic on the salesman! Haha! He’s holding strong on his initial offer and I said “Who in the world puts Rough Country on a $75,000 truck?” I also told him I could understand on a $70,000 truck!” 😂🤣

Maybe he’ll come down. God knows I’m not paying $75k!

It’s your decision but from my experience unless it’s a aluminum leveling spacer I wouldn’t fool with RC. You get what you pay for.

This is very true.

I have only had one actual "lift" put on one of my trucks over the years. My 2014 Sierra Z71 I put a 6.5" BDS lift on it. The lift was great, and it came with a "lifetime" ball joint warranty. Where I live in Montana, especially on my road up to my house, the roads are VERY rough. Just harsh on the front suspension and truck in general.

I had 3 ball joint replacements on my 2014 Sierra in the first 60 K miles. After that, BDS said "no more", the "lifetime warranty" is done. I mean, I get it. I wasn't abusing my truck, don't offroad it, but their claim was that I must have been offroading it, etc. I ended up selling the truck before another ball joint replacement was due just because I have been down this path before. I always front level my trucks, which is a mild lift, really. Most of my trucks I end up needing ball joint replacements at least once before I trade it off, which I normally trade every 3 to 4 years.

I am a contractor, and using my trucks as a contractor, does put more wear and tear on them, which is why I always find 3 years or so is the sweet spot to trade it off. Once they hit 70K miles, it seems like the repair bills start racking up. So 70K is usually my mileage number I start to consider to trade for new. Probably wouldn't be the case if I was just driving it, not using it as a work vehicle and daily driver, but mostly I think it is the rough road conditions where I live in the mountains that does most of the damage.

I personally doubt there is a lift available that wouldn't have issues given my situation. I can say the BDS was a high quality lift though. And that I actually would like to put a 4" lift on my AT4X, but that would likely mean GM would completely void my factory warranty, which I just can't afford to lose. I also have, for the first time ever, bought an aftermarket warranty (100K miles supposedly bumper to bumper), but the fine print on that warranty does say "no major modifications", which I question if my RC 1.5" front level with the 3.5" RC UCA's would void the warranty if it came down to it. I bet it could. Tempted to get the remainder back I paid for the warranty, as I can have the prorated remainder back at any point.

True! My dad believed you’re always gonna have 1 of 2 things: A truck/car note OR a repair bill!

I’m a firm believer as well!

And he wasn't wrong. I have tried 3 times over the years (pushing on 29 years now since I graduated college and started out of the gate as a builder/contractor) to sell a bit newer truck, and use that money to buy a bit older and higher mileage truck and bank the $ difference between them. Never worked out. Usually within a year, I was trading or selling the bit older truck because it was nickle and diming me too much and just wasn't trust worthy enough as a work truck and daily driver.

So I have had a truck payment most of the last 28 years or so. It wasn't until I bought my 2020 AT4 that I had ever paid over 35K for a new truck (my 2014 Sierra Z71 I got for about 34 K). I got my 2020 AT4 3.0 for right about 50 K, the Covid and dealer discounts were large 3 years ago, it MSRP'd for almost 60K. I paid 75K for my 23 AT4X. Sticker was almost 80K. Crazy what vehicle/truck prices have gotten to. But I also charge more for the work I do now, not only are materials and payroll costs higher, but so is basically every other expense, so one has to charge more.

But 75K for a truck... reality for a near or at top of the line truck now, what do you do. Even the mid level trucks (which are missing a ton of the niceties of the upper level trucks) are 60K or more. At this point, I'd rather have an AT4X at 75K than a regular Sierra at 60ish K. Sure, say I get a Sierra RST (or similar trim level) which I would then put a 4" lift on, tires and wheels - would look nice and be a nice truck. But still missing a LOT of features this 23 AT4X has, and not be "that" much less expensive.

I wasn’t able to physically compare the AT4 and the AT4X. I was very close to closing on a X but got spooked by non-existence of options of lifting and adding larger tires. I’m guessing it’s because of fancy smancy shocks. And I would like the option to add 37’s. I saw a couple that were advertised with 4” lift but didn’t do any extensive searching for it. What other than the shocks and “nicer” leather do the X’s have that reg AT4 doesn’t?

I bought the AT4, by the way. I pick it up Monday!! WOOP WOOP

The ride is way better on the AT4X. But it is true, the level/lift option are less available.

Coming from a 2020 AT4, which I had installed the Airlift 5000 airbags, I can say the AT4X with it's softer/better shocks has a lot more rear end sag with a larger trailer attached. I am installing the airlift 5000 airbags on my 23 AT4X this coming week. Besides more rear end sag while towing, the X has a much better ride versus a regular AT4.

The interior is nicer on the AT4X vs the AT4, but you are correct, there isn't much difference besides nicer shocks and a bit nicer interior. I got the last run of the non-AEV 23 AT4X's (didn't even know they were going to make the AEV standard mid-year), and while I would like the AEV bumpers, I kinda like the refined look of the non-AEV better. Doesn't matter - I can't change what I bought, lol. I was in a pickle being out of state 1000 miles from home, with my 2020 AT4 3.0 being stuck in the dealers shop for 4 straight weeks with them unable to figure out how to fix it. That dealer just didn't have a comparable new truck for me to trade for until my 23 AT4X came on a semi on Jan 4th of this year, and a few hours later it was mine.

I love my AT4X. Biggest complaint is a measley 24 gallon gas tank. With a truck that struggles to get 15 MPG, it needs at least a 28 gallon tank. 30+ gallon would be ideal. But it is not an option, so what do you do.

I would like to know how the ride changes with the Airbags. I am in the same boat, I just purchased the 2023 AT4X AEV and I pull a trailer often. I see the sag on it when the trailer is attached. I always had airbags but I find they "roughen" up the ride. I don't want to put them on this truck and mess up the smooth ride it has.

I expect the ride in the rear will be a little stiffer. But it will be worth it to not sag so much when pulling my job trailer. I am also installing the EZ mount airbag compressor kit, which has a remote and an app for my phone to control how much air I want in the airbags. I bought this compressor kit for my 2020 AT4, but never installed it. But am installing it this time. So I can more easily adjust the level of lift from the airbags on demand.

I don't think I will get the airbags installed yet this week, but hoping sometime next week I get them installed. I will report back with the difference in ride when I do. I actually want a little more lift in the rear anyway for looks, the front is levelled (1.5" RC + 3.5" RC UCA's), and I usually have a few hundred lbs of weight in my bed, and with these softer shocks the AT4X has, it seems to naturally sag a little more than my 2020 AT4. Granted, I only had my 2020 AT4 for maybe 2 months before I had installed the airlift 5000 airbags, so not sure how much that truck sagged before the airlift bags, but I know it wasn't as much as the AT4X with the softer/nicer shocks.

I am also going to be getting new wheels and tires. I am just not fond of my choice for wheels and tires I went with (Fuel Contra 18x9 -12 offset on 34x11.5 R18 Nitto RG's). I feel this size tire and 18" wheel is just too narrow and skinny looking for my tastes. I am getting good trade value for my current wheels and tires which have 8000 miles on them, it is going to cost me $1200 or so to do the trade depending on which new wheel and tire I go with, as there is some minor price differences between the various options, but I am not going to let a 100 to 200 bucks total change my decision, going to go with what I feel looks best. Going with a 20x10 or 20x9 wheel.

My tire and wheel guy has mounted up some 295/60 R20's on a WORX 20x10 -19 offset that look real nice. Also the same tire on a 20x9 Fuel Blitz 0 offset. I may still go with the Moto Metal 970 gray spoke wheels in 20", but going to do a fitment on my truck to see if the ones he has create much rubbing. I really like the look of the WORX wheel, had never seen if before but I may go with that if I can fit them. The tires do look big mounted to the 20" wheel - would gain about 10 lbs per tire vs what I have on now, so I expect some loss of MPG just from that. I will attach a pic of the WORX wheel for reference.

This is a very nice wheel!! I have never seen one like this myself. I'm kinda worried about doing anything to the suspension ( first time I ever bought ext. warranty) and don't want to void it. A lot of guys I talked to around my area said a level kit would actually make my truck sit back and I really don't want that. I do like the factory rims but I would love to put bigger, better tires. Just not sure if I can.

Thanks! Yeah, I have never heard of the WORX brand of wheel, when my local tire/wheel guy said he had some 20x10 -19 offset wheels he could mount up a 295/60 R20 tire on my truck to see if it would fit, I had no idea the WORX wheel would look so nice. I actually am buying those wheels from him, just waiting for the Nitto RG 295/60 R20 tires to come in so he can mount them on the wheels and my truck. I will post pics when it is done.

I am also putting on the Airlift 5000 rear airbags. That will give me a little more lift in the rear - adjustable to what I want since I can inflate or deflate them to my tastes or needs - this will give me a little more rear lift, and yes, the rear of the AT4X does sag more than the regular AT4 due to the nicer, but softer DSRV shocks.

I also liked the factory rims, and was strongly considering using them with a 1.5" wheel spacer. That is what I should have done in retrospect - would have saved me a couple grand vs what I did. Now I will be on my 2nd set of wheels to get the stance/look I want, although it is only costing me $1200 to trade my current wheels/tires (which have 8500 miles on them) for the new wheels and tires. Not bad really, my local tire/wheel guy cuts me good deals. But if I had stuck with the factory wheels and used wheels spacers, it would have been cheaper and given me the stance I wanted. Oh well.
