RECALL FINALLY ISSUED ON 2021-2024 6.2L V8 (L87)

I may use the Mobil1 0w40 since my corvette uses that oil anyway. Either way this expense has been passed on to the customer by GM. I personally think it’s a bandaide to get these engines through the 5 year 60k mile mark then they’re not responsible if your engine blows then. Other words this is not a long term fix by changing oil viscosity.

I called my dealer they don’t have the oil yet or enough filters to even start the recall. I change my own oil not crazy about even letting them do the changes one time. I’ve had bad experiences in past with dealership oil changes on anything.
I'm contemplating just doing it myself as well as I don't like the dealer doing anything to my truck that I can do myself. Curious if anything will change with the oil filter, or if they're just sticking to a different oil.

My understanding is they are looking for a default code….
P0016 is a fault related to cam/crank orientation. The failures on these are connecting rod bearings, most likely due to lack of oil to the bearings. The cam angle is adjusted with oil pressure and I am assuming if it's setting the P0016 then it's already got oiling issues and it's going to get an engine. If it doesn't they are putting in the thicker oil to hope it goes down the road long enough for engines to become available, or kicking the can in hopes it makes it out of warranty.

My truck has cranked funny about 3 times in last two months or so. When hot it sounded like the timing was off with valve ping or a weak battery. It is a 2023 with only 15k miles on it and rarely driven unless I need a truck. I do use premium in it and it’s had 4 oil and filter changes since new all done by me using Mobil1 0w20 and ACdelco filters. It is stored with a battery tender on it when not in use so I highly doubt it’s a bad battery at two years old.

Have a 2022 AT=4 34K Miles. Low oil warning comes up everyday, ,oil dipstick shows full each time,,,guess I will take to GMC Mckinney, Texas and see what they do with it...will post outcome asap .

I read about this last week before the recall was finalized, and was due for an oil change anyway so I had it done today.
Oil is P/N 19432866 - Mobil 1 Supercar GM DexosR Engine Oil, 0W40. Oil filter is 12735811, and oil fill cap is 12713787.
We'll see what happens when I get the recall notice. Maybe I'll get reimbursed, but not holding my breath. When I bought the truck in 2021, AFM was deleted due to the chip shortage, but don't think it's related. Also glad it didn't have the AFM in hindsight. 20,000 miles on the truck, no P0016 codes and runs fine. The only thing I've done to it is an Airaid intake. 75 MPH cruise on the highway nets an average of 24 mpg on a 275 mile run. Best so far is 24.8. Overall, love the truck. 🤞

Not for the lifters, but for defective connecting rod and crankshaft components. You’re still stuck with the bum lifters. And their “fix” is to use slightly thicker oil 🙄 like that will make up for bad parts.
It will give the engin a better chance making it out of warranty before failing

My understanding from speaking with a GM Tech is, All the hard parts that runs the AFM system are still in the engine, GM did not delete the crappy lifters and other items of the system, basically it doesn’t have the chip in place to operate the AFM.

GM has FINALLY done it. They've FINALLY issued a recall on the 2021 - 2024 6.2V8 that is subject to"lifter failure" in our trucks and multiple other GM models. Check your GMC apps, but here's a screenshot from mine.

This may be breaking news because i'm not seeing it on gmauthority.com or any of the news sites!

I have been watching and so far nothing on my app. Sorry I posted my post in wrong spot I think. But I’m not sure a thicker oil will do the trick they are hoping for in order to fix the engine failures like a few others said it is an incomplete recall list.

Thicker oil is them hoping to limp these things to the 5 year 60k powertrain warranty. Then they’re done with them. Basically a bandaide patch or a hope for GM.

So now we have to use oil that is non existent and moble 1 supercar
A Tec at moble said the oil will be readily available in about 2 months and he knew all about the recall
To bad GM didn’t build Super trucks!

I just spoke to a friend that has a 2024 Denali 1500. He called his dealer they looked it up and said he’s getting a new engine and put him on the waiting list. Didn’t want him to bring it in. So if you have a good service manager that’s how it can be done. Gm has already given him $12500 back for radio issues they could not resolve. He has 31,000 miles on it. He said coming back from Virginia yesterday he let off the throttle for a slow vehicle in front and when he got back on the gas it vibrated and shook.

Did he get the recall notice on his app or phone. I have not seen anything on mine even when I looked up the vin. I have the 2024 gmc sierra 1500 at4 4x4 with the 6.2 V8L
