6.6L gas or Duramax for upcoming purchase?

I agree. So, if I’d already done everything I could think to do for my wife and kids, and I’d fully capitalized trust funds for all of my grandkids, and I felt good about my level of contribution to local children’s charities, and I was done traveling all the parts of the country and world I have yet to visit, and I had no other higher priorities or wants, I would absolutely buy one of those trucks.
I see where you're coming from, since you're still a younger person (y). Although we're past that stage with both our kids and grandkids, my wife and I are still into travelling the globe; there's a lot left to see yet.

My neighbor is a certified Diesel mechanic at my local GMC dealership and he told me that they have such a high demand for the 2500 gasser that it’s pretty much all they order. He said the word is out how good the 6.6 gas motor is with the 10 speed transmission.

In general if well-maintained diesels are capable of 4 to 6 times the lifespan of a gasser. They also achieve more power and much better economy if set up properly.

SO...

What is holding back the popularity of the diesel engine:

DPF
DEF
EGR
Overcharging for fuel
_________ Bonus_________
Software security controls

I believe once they roll back the government overreach due to the climate hoax we will see changes in the first four items. The last one is either up to GM or you guys who can program and it is not critical but it keeps companies like BANKs engineering from offering their tuner.
On climate and the so-called tuners out there I think if it wasn't for those guys who don't know how to tune and ended up "rolling Cole" we would not have most of the currently imposed restrictions. Gail BANKs has proven you can produce 1000+ horsepower using the current emissions trash without blowing any unburnt fuel. Imagine our potential future!

Yes. It’s all very frustrating.

On the bright side, i just bought diesel for less than regular gas. That’s the second time I’ve been able to do that — at Shell, no less, which generally has good quality fuel. Titan makes a 56 gallon fuel tank for the 2500 Duramax too. With that tank you can afford to wait for a better price.

They also make a 60 gallon tank. Although I love the idea, with my limited driving, it may not be for me; be great if we used the truck for cross country driving. My run to Pemberton BC and back is usually just under 300 miles, averaging say 14mpg with this huge 6.6L V8, I usually fill up soon after I return. Need to think about this one 🤔

Ha! Younger than some, but definitely older than most. Actually, much older than most. 😂

I appreciate your post and your perspective. Most see us baby-boomers as over the hill. I’ll be forwarding your post to my kids as further proof of my youthful disposition (that they fail to acknowledge). ;)

Somebody else had a 62 gallon or a 64 gallon maybe it was S&B I don't remember

I also have the gas engine. Just curious, what is the typical weight of your trailer when towing? (not dry weight)
I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I have a 2500 AT4 and tow a 34' bumper tow. I'm guessing the loaded weight of the trailer is around 8500ish lbs. We just got back from a 1000mi trip through the Smokies and averaged 8mpg in the mountains and around 9-9.5mpg flat land.

I'm in the process is picking up a Alliance Avenue 33RKS (10.2k lbs empty) and converting to a fifth wheel.

We are from the same era! :ROFLMAO:

Thanks. I recently towed a 5000 lb trailer and got 10.3 so that makes sense with your numbers on a heavier trailer.

I have the 3500 6.6 gasser and love it. It is more than enough truck to pull my 32' 8000 # camper. Diesel is more expensive to buy and maintain. The fuel costs difference sare negliable as diesel costs more, but you get better MPG. So in the end, do you need the extra powwer of a diesel, if so, thats your answer if not the gasser may be right for you.
