If you are getting a HD truck, move to a 3500 and get the diesel. You will never run out of capacity or power.
You'll get better mileage if you don't use AUTO. Auto keeps front driveshaft engaged, using more power than needed if in 2wd.Before I added the snorkel the best Hwy was 14.? but it likes the added air and cooler air at that. the air in the hood intake gets heat soaked before it ever gets to my turbo. Then towing my 10,000 lb trailer with 1,000 lb tongue weight I get 8-9 mpg which is about what I get when I drive how I like to drive in city not loaded.
Thank you I had no clue I'll have to check that out it's not something I noticed before. Is that option on the knob where the 4wd is? or is in the cluster menu? I can always look it up also. You'll get better mileage if you don't use AUTO. Auto keeps front driveshaft engaged, using more power than needed if in 2wd.
No problem. Yes, it's a transfer case mode. 2wd, auto (detects slip and engages front axles), and 4wd. Auto is best in crap conditions when you know you're going to have some wheel slip along the way, but not need full time 4wd. Otherwise, 2wd is adequate and best for efficiency.Thank you I had no clue I'll have to check that out it's not something I noticed before. I was in the same boat. Debated it mentally for a while, made the choice of diesel. (I have no current need for one, I don't tow but might get small boat soon but a gas engine could certainly handle it). Once i made the choice I started watching vids, scrolling here and started doubting the decision again. This thread pretty much put me at ease with the decision. I'm fortunate to be able to swing it financially, life is short, and I've always 'wanted' a truck like the one that I ordered, so screw it. If there are issues i'll move on to something else.

My wife was actually pushing for the diesel. She has a 2017 Range Rover in diesel and absolutely loves it.
Truck driver in past, current, and probably any future lives. And I bought the 6.6 gasser, because I REFUSE to play the government enforcement games with DEF in my personal life.I have a 2024 GMC AT4X 2500HD with the diesel. I haven't nor do I ever plan on towing or hauling anything heavier than my dirt bike. I've always had diesels. Absolutely a want and not a need. Probably a truck driver in my past life.. I absolutely love this thing and will do it all over again when the fine folks at GMC come out with something newer and shinier.
