6.6L gas or Duramax for upcoming purchase?

The whole mall crawler/small d@&k narrative is ridiculous. Went from a 22 AT4 Duramax to a 24 AT4x gasser. Love the gas engine and it fits my needs. Hauls the the quads and motorcycles with ease, goes anywhere on our family farm with ease, and the ride on the highway is smooth and one can see everything. Small d&$s are the ones that run around calling everyone else the small d&$k owners and 100% positive there aren’t many, if any of the self proclaimed ‘big d@$k’ crowd that would head to Ft Benning and have a who has the bigger d@&k conversation. Not to mention, who gives a flying F what someone drives, regardless of how they use it…except for the actual little d@&$s amongst us…no one.
Im hoping you’re not directly pointing this at me. Unfortunately there is a huge community of people who hate lifted trucks etc. and they do call it little dick syndrome. I didn’t start it. I was making a comment about “mall crawlers” another term I did not create. I have a lifted 1500 now and like it. It’s a free country if you want a 1 ton dually to go get groceries and never touch gravel more power to you. I live in Montana where most native Montanans have trucks. Only the new transplants own Subarus and not the WRX kind either.

The little dick syndrome has been around since the square body! 😁 I have a little dick, but that's not why I had lifted trucks back in the day. 🤪
I'm in that small penis club! I had a 1980 F-250 with a big block 460 that I ran straight off the headers. Also had a 9" suspension lift, with a 3" body lift running on 44' Super Swampers. Mind you I was in highschool and that sucker got about 5 MPG. My hot highschool sweetheart still married me...don't know what she was thinking as we celebrate 25 years this December.

Actually I’m from the other side of the fence..if you don’t NEED a diesel (as in towing all the time) then get the 6.6 gas with the 10 speed…it’s rated to tow heavy and you will never have to worry about all the diesel headaches.
This right here ^^^^^.
I have had a diesel since 2005, my last one was a 2018 L5P, nothing but problems, Ordered a 2024 AT4 2500 6.6 Gasser in April of 2023. Picked it up in June 2023 and love it!
I have almsot 20k miles on it and I have had it a little over a year.
The dealer even said most people don't need the diesel and he could take me out back to show me all the new diesels in for issues and repairs.
Going this route simplified a lot of things.
In fact this tows just like my 2004.5 LLY Duramax..which was plenty for my needs. New truck has 90 more HP and only 46 ft/lb less of torque than that diesel.
If you don't need to tow the earth to another solar system or are not towing 20k regularly, this package is great!
Did a round trip to Vegas and back got exactly 18.0 MPG for the whole trip averaging 68 mph. Towing I am 9-10 mpg. Around town 12-15, to work 15-17, straight fwy 16-19.

I cant imagine getting 18 MPG but I am usually much closer to 80 MPH.

I never tow and the heaviest thing I put in the bed is my dirt biked but I still went with the Duramax. I've owned 2 gassers and this is my third diesel. I don't know why I prefer it over gas but I do. Yeah it's a lot more money to get a diesel but I'd hate to spend $80K plus on a gasser and each time I walk up to it think "why didn't I just get the diesel".

You're talking my language. Both my vehicles the Benz and GMC truck are diesel; even my John Deer X-758 riding mower is a 3-cyl diesel. I don't hate gassers, I just love diesels more. Even way way back in the 80's I had a diesel truck I often drove high up in the Himalayas; I still remember waking up one morning, following a heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, diesel in the tank and lines had gelled up; had a 200L tank (aka 56gal). What did I do? Same thing all larger freight truckers did, light a fire under the tank and fuel lines, yeah literally started a brush wood fire with tall flames and heat; 20 minutes later we were on our way. I ❤️ diesel.

Same with me. It’s my first diesel and I don’t tow anything just haul my 3 kids and all their junk on trips haha. Jus like how big the truck is overall.

On the flip side my friend has the AT4x HD diesel and I have the AT4x HD gas. Every time he gets in mine he tells me he is jealous of my v8 sound. I did the borla exhaust and it sounds awesome. His diesel is silent compared to it. He keeps saying he wished he did the gas because it sounds so good. We both tow but not max capacity 5th wheel style.

I used to enjoy loud exhausts when I was young, I now prefer a quieter exhaust unlike my sons Maserati which wakes up the neighborhood. :ROFLMAO:. Having said that, I hate electrics, thats way too quiet for comfort.

I think the only stuff I carry in the bed is part of my vehicle recovery gear, that too just for the heck of it. My primary criteria for selecting a GMC Sierra was its 6'10" bed which easily fit a 2meter radio control plane fuselage (max 12lbs) from nose to tail in the bed. I took a tape measure, visiting different dealerships when shopping for a truck to replace an aging SUV; why a truck? because its an American thing, its different, makes me feel special. My wife was flabbergasted with this argument although I had no justification for the 2500HD Duramax AT4X AEV edition with all the bells and whistles, paid $10K over msrp with features I'd never need or use but 'wanted' only because I could.

Or the bike even though I have a two bike rack I prefer to use the bed for it, too many expensive parts lol

Go diesel, I have the AT4X and I love it. Tow, don't tow, it's still a great buy. I would rather have it and not need it than need and not have it. If cost is a factor, remember if you have to ask much then it's probably too much for you to concern yourself with. Gas mileage is about the same for my diesel and the gasser. 15 to 17 mpg.

I went from a 2019 Silverado 2500 HD to a 2023 BMW M5 and now to a 2024 Sierra AT4X. The M5 had the M Performance exhaust on it which is stock but very loud. Several neighbors would say they can hear me start the car up in the morning. Cold starts were brutal for about 30 seconds. I think my neighbors appreciate the truck but I still do like the sound of a nice exhaust every now and then.

I like the sound of quiet with no drone anymore, traveling. You can talk and think alot better.

When I get the itch for exhaust sound, I go to the tractor pulls, or drag strip.
