6.6L gas or Duramax for upcoming purchase?

It depends honestly on how much money you want to throw away. I had a 2024 AT4 1/2 ton for a commuter truck an got rid of it cause I just needed a 2500 for what I do… got another AT4 loved it then I got a 2026 AT4X and I am not impressed as much as I was with the AT4 mostly because I lost 3-4MPG….. my dad has 375k miles on his Dmax and went and got a new 2500 6.6 gas and I’ll be honest it’s crazy good the mileage is crap still but much better than my AT4X. If you don’t tie or toe often you are not doing yourself a favor with these new diesel trucks anyone says they are not a pain in the ass when something happens hasn’t waited 9 months for a fuel pump. For your short trips the gas will save you a ton of money and headaches….. when something happens now it’s 5-10k with a gas you can buy a new motor for 15k…. Everything is cheaper on the gasser and it has great power. I tow in the mountains all year long so the diesel is what I need??? Ehhhh debatable but I love having it. Both are great options. At this point it in the world it comes down to customer service after the purchase these days I would buy a ugly truck if every time unneeded something they took care of me but that’s not the world we live in ask my buddy who ended up waiting on a 6.2 so long we just put a 6.6 crate motor in his Yukon. 10k up front difference and depending on where you live 70c a gallon price difference for fuel plus $$$$$$ service on a diesel they get about the same mileage so get the gas since you don’t tow you can always put a supercharger on it for the money you saved upfront…… but I’m crazy like that I have a hellcat motor in a C10 that gets 7mpg on a good day.

i've had multiple duramax trucks. now i am in the gas 6.6.
power doesn't compare obviously, but it gets the job done. i am not towing or hauling. but i do miss the power of the diesel.
i don't miss the constant thoughts of some sort of diesel failure though. the one that put me over the edge is the oil cooler failure issue with the '24-up trucks. my buddy's truck was in the shop over 30 days with parts still on back order because of it. he eded up buying a ford while the truck was in the shop

Well, I am about a year in. The only changes I have made from stock are a more aggressive tire in stock sizes and a goose hitch. I am running the L8T gasser 6.6 and have no regrets….well I could get better fuel milage. Best I have had was 15 but mostly I am getting 13.5ish. Mainly due to my driving habits.
I am a bit annoyed with the Global B OBDII and it seems everytime the truck updates I lose my personal settings for the seat etc…..
Loving the truck and the engine.
