New seats in 2024 AT4 HD

It seems to be something that can be done in your garage. Really they zip off and plastic cup shaped connections to under the seat frame tension held. You don’t have to disconnect anything as far as I know. Some wrangling to get it pulled and centered over each of the foam sections but a half day project maybe for both front seats? My $.02. So my observation is just changing out seat foam is only a part of the “hard as all get out” issue. In my quasi side by side depiction the OEM seat covers specifically on the seat “flares” have the double stitched seam run right down the middle of the flare. That makes that portion of the seat a lot stiffer in my mind. The Katzkin doesn’t have the seam in the middle of the flared out section. It’s a little thing but that’s a big seam and pulled together so it won’t tear make it not very flexible at all. So long answer to your question from my perspective is that changing out just the seat foam won’t help all that much. Might help some but would really be more comfortable moving that heavy seam out to the edge.

I think so. I have often thought it would be nice to have a new drivers skin because thats the seat that wears out. My truck is brand new but maybe a few years down the road I switch. I dont think Im all that likely to do the change you did. Just curious, was that cast skin available in all black? I dont love the brown accents on AT4 seats and I never realized how hard they were until people started talking about it.

The last time I bought Katzkin seats I wanted gray to match the interior. There were three or four shades of gray to choose from. The upholstery company had 4” round samples of every color on a ring, so you could take them out to the truck and put the color against a trim panel. Once you pick your color(s) you can pick your pattern. Then you can opt for stitched designs, or not. There are many, many choices.

Great info as my butt was screaming after a three day journey across the country. Did a three hour drive to as picnic yesterday and started again so I we HAVE to get these seats fixed. I am dreading the trip back to Texas. Is there something we can sit "on" to allviate this until we get back to Texas to look into the Tyler locale?

You could try one of these seat cushions that I got from Duluth Trading. It's by the company that makes Purple Matresses. I use it at work because I'm sitting in an office chair all shift and it really helps. I haven't tried it in a vehicle but it probably wouldn't hurt to try. It's currently on clearance too.

Nice choice Katzkin does make some really high quality seats and very sad that when you're spending upwards of $100 grand on a truck you gotta go and make changes to the seats. Not sure if anyone else in this thread mentioned it or not : I thought it was the Denali models 1500's that had the super rock hard stiff seats in them ? Not the " Ultimate " models, just regular Reserve package. I thought AT4 models were a different syle seat(foam/contour) color and stitching.

I just submitted my contact info to Katskin for a local installer to call me. I've had my 2500 AT4 since April and haaaaaate the seats. They were ok during the test drive, but they get worse the longer you sit on them. I really appreciate this thread as it gives me hope.

I traded in a 2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon for this and my wife reminds me daily how comfortable the seats were in my old truck. I need to do something to make driving more enjoyable again.

I traded in a 2017 Ram on my AT4 and those seats were good. What I will say is that I’m on month 3 with Katzkin and some custom foam additions and drove from Tyler Texas to Angel Fire NM with our Airstream and legs never went numb once! Best money I spent so far but a shame a $90K truck need to do that. Highly recommend the change, worked well for me!

Had to do it, this last trip over this past Memorial Day with 8 hours driving and numb legs had to be last one like that. Went to a local custom leather outfitter and they will be putting the Katzkin leather with Autumn Gold trim and stitching in the next 4-6 weeks. The attached thumbnail photo is the design. I found out that GMC actually has patent on AT4 seat design so Katzkin couldn’t infringe. Will still heat/cool and have a whole different Durafoam system than OEM. Can’t wait as pulling from Texas to New Mexico in July and flat out need a better seat!

I will post final install pictures when its completed.

Just bought a '23 AT4 1500 and came here for this exact reason...anything over an hour drive is pure misery. Can I ask how you located your local shop who performed the work? I'm in MA but just trying to get an idea of where to start looking in my area.

Go to the “Katzkin” website and either call them for a local dealer/installer in your area or do a Google search for Katzkin seat cover installation. I also had some extra foam on the seat bolsters and just WOW! After almost a year installed with the Katzkin and I can’t even stress enough for me how much of a difference these Katzkin covers make on the long trips. I have an AIRSTREAM and on all day trips my legs no longer go numb. Crazy and don’t really know how to explain it other than these covers made all the difference in the world!

Awesome thank you very much for the info and I will begin my search tomorrow. My test drive was fine which is why i pulled the trigger but being that this is my mobile office and I'm in it all day everyday it's either trade it in or go this route. Any specific "specs" to ask for or just tell them my issues and let them work their magic?
