New 2023 AT4X let the mods begin!

I found this video for installing on they say 22.5+ silverado Sierra with bucket seats .
No seat removal. But I know the top of my dash does not have that same pocket behind the big screen. Not sue how to get to those bolts or what else has to be removed on a premium model GMC dash.
I do wonder the extra steps we would have to do for the AT4X because our dash and console is different than the one he is doing in the video. but man that is very involved. Don't think I will be doing it anytime soon.

I think I will buy one to fix the start stop crap.
Just need to figure out what I am in for taking apart the GMCs Dash.
I think the Chevy video likely is covering 80-90% of what I am in for, but really want know about that last little bit.

I have found videos that show how to disable DFM for free or at least how to stop it till Rang gets there products updated to work on our trucks. I am going to play around with this L9 fix tomorrow.

Yea, have a feeling that’s what’s going on with yours. If your Oem sensors were in you new custom wheels your truck should be reading them no problem.
i know now my issues is my 2021 sensors are simply not compatible with the new frequency they are using on the 2023s. I am 100% sure if I harvest my Oem sensors from my Oem rims to put in the custom wheels and tires, I will back in business.

I agree with you - in my case, I bet they never even took the time to take the stock sensors out of my stock wheels when I traded the tires and wheels in. Gonna go in tomorrow to the tire shop and find that out.

I your case, I believe you are correct, that swapping out stock OE sensors in your new wheels will be your remedy.

Wish you the best of luck that they still have the sensors and you can get this fixed.

I found this somewhere don't remember but it appears not too hard to install the auto stop eliminator.
Interesting. I was concerned about getting that long wood top trim off ( that piece above the screen below the vents that runs pretty much full width of the dash).
These instructions are not showing anything on the top of the screen to have to remove only the bolts in the front.
Thank you for the instructions. I greatly appreciate it.

Not a problem as I said I don't know where I downloaded that from but it is a better reference than the video that was posted. Mainly because in that video it talks about that space above the screen that my truck doesn't have mainly because above my screen I have vents.

Went to the local tire shop, the owner is out on vacation this week, but his main people were still there. They have one guy who mainly deals with the TPMS sensors, resetting them, etc.

So they have me pull the truck inside, wanting to use the reset tool they have. I explain that the reset tools won't work on the 23 models as GM has a new system. We put my truck in auto-learn mode for the TPMS system. He goes to the first tire, his tool recognizes the sensor in that tire. But won't recognize any others. We do the auto-reset two more times, 3rd time his tool senses all for senors. However, his tool can tell (according to him) that the sensors are NOT the stock sensors, that they must have kept my stock tires/wheels and kept the stock sensors in them.

The stock tires/wheels that I traded in were sold an hour after they took them off my truck, lol. I traded them in for $1000, they got $1200 for them. But with the quick turnaround in how quick they sold them, they simply forgot to take my OEM sensors out of the wheels.

So they called the local GM dealershp (at my suggestion) to see if they had any OEM sensors on hand. They didn't, and as expected the GM dealership said there was a national backorder so it could be a while for them to come in. But the tire shop is paying for all the expense of course, and they mentioned several times how sorry they were for the screw up.

They were also looking for the info on the guy who bought my stock tires and wheels, but he paid cash and since the owner of the shop wasn't there, and the owner is the one who sold them, no one there knows who they actually sold them to. They think the shop owner will know, he gets back from vacation next monday. The reason they were doing this is to get that guy who bought my stock tires/wheels from them to have him come back in so they could harvest my OEM sensors from the wheels. Those sensors won't work in a pre-refresh truck anyway, so whoever bought the wheels will probably be in anyway with the same problem I am having.

So right now I have afermarket sensors in until either new ones from GM come in, or they can find my stock ones from the guy who bought my tires and wheels.

I am confident it will get fixed, just might take a while.

Hope it gets fixed sooner than later. Glad the shop is willing to make things right!

Really Glad to hear they are taking care of you.
‘Hopefully they get your Oem sensors back. My dealer said the back order status had no ETA posted at all. He had no idea when I would see the two sets I ordered this week. I am planing to put them back in my stock wheels. I have another set of aftermarket rims and tires I may rig up for this truck as well.

Seems like I read some of you guys had Diesel AT4s before your X model gas, like I did.
Curious if you guys also think the diesel was better matched to its transmission programming?

‘My 21 Diesel AT4 always seemed spot on with its shifts, smooth never hunting.

This new gas AT4X 6.2L truck seems a little out of sorts with its shifting, seems to really like to stumble around at take off 1-3rd just seem wonky .

Yep, I agree. My 2020 AT4 diesel was smoother with shifting, without a doubt. We took my wife's 2020 AT4 diesel in to town for dinner tonight (most of the car seats were already in her truck), and I have to say, that 3.0 diesel is a smooth, torque to the wheels, truck. Feels, and is quick.

Will it beat my new AT4X in a drag race? Nope. But you step into it, and it actually feels quicker in a way.

Some of this is what I am used to. I am used to almost 3 years of driving my 2020 AT4 diesel I traded off just a little over a month ago. I really liked that engine and truck. But the fact that the dealer simply could not figure out or fix the "service emissions system" error code after 4 weeks in the shop, plus making the truck impossible to drive the 1000 mile trip back from Nebraska to MT because the error code puts it into progressive limp mode, forced me to trade it off.

This 23 AT4X is a sweet ride. More and nicer bells and whistles. More "fun" to drive with the 6.2 engine. But I did not need, or even want, to have to make this trade. I was forced to given my circumstances. I would have preferred to keep my 2020 AT4 instead of what amounts to extending my payment schedule for a nicer, new, truck. Plus I just dumped over 2 grand in extras into my 23 AT4X. That being said, I had about 4 to 5 grand of issues that needed to be addressed in my 2020 AT4 - it badly needed new tires (Nitto RG's @ $1600), windshield just got broken a week before it went to the shop in early December ($800 to replace), well over 2 grand in pending shop bills at the dealership they ate and didn't make me pay for since I traded it off to them. Had several dings (mostly on the tailgate from work) that would have needed attention were I to try to trade or sell it different than how I did. The passenger rear bottom leather seat got ruined from one of the kids spilling cider (was in a sippy cup but it leaked bad), that was at least a few hundred to fix. Hell, it was at 1% on needing an oil change too, lol.

A confluence of circumstance is why I am driving a 2023 AT4X instead of my 2020 AT4 diesel.

Yea, 2 years for me with my 21 diesel AT4, I am sure I am more used to the old truck. Hopefully this transmission learns or I can get a Range device to shut off the DFM , not sure if it’s DFM or simply poor trans tuning that makes this new truck drive sort of wonky in comparison to my old one. I probably or likely would have bought the diesel again, had they offered it in the X, I really wanted the AEV bumper if I was going to buy one of these refreshed models. Exterior wise even with the AEV bumper, I think my old AT4 Carbon pro was the better looking of the two.

That said, I am enjoying most of the new interior, nicer seats, better tech displays, etc.
Still not a fan of the joystick shifter or the console layout caused by putting the shifter there. , but getting a little more use to everyday. The 2024 HD has all the dash display enhancements, but kept the column shift. I really wish the 1500s had done the same.

The AT4 diesels definitely shift better and cleaner, at least in my experience with my 6.2 AT4X so far. I think the torque of the diesel is better suited to the transmission.

So far, no tuners available for the 23 refreshed models. You can do the L9 trick to keep the AFM off, but I personally didn't notice much if any benefit to doing that in the few times I tried it. Might try it again a few times though.

I also think in the exterior looks dept, the pre-refresh AT4's are still on par with the 23 AT4X's. I don't have the AEV bumpers, wish I did, but I might like the more refined look of the non-AEV AT4X's a little better actually. Still would prefer the AEV bumpers for other reasons, and it does give the truck a more distinctive look also.

The interior of the AT4X is a big upgrade from the pre-refresh AT4's. Driving my wife's 2020 AT4 Carbon Pro last night, the interior felt old. The seats felt hard/stiff. The updated layout, infotainment system, etc is just a lot nicer on the refreshed AT4X. I actually like, am used to and prefer the shifter moved down to the center, originally I didn't like it but am used to it already.

I had a 2013 Ram for a year back in 2019, and it had the joystick shifter like the AT4X does, and I originally didn't like it but quickly ended up liking it. That 2013 Ram actually had a really nice interior, infotainment system, etc for a 2013 truck. Was ahead of GM trucks in that dept at the time. But that truck was a stop-gap truck I bought for 19K in 2019, I traded it a year later for the same amount I paid for it, 19K (and it had major damage in the year I owned the truck - whole truck got hailed on which I never got fixed just kept the insurance money, windshield broken, I backed into a light pole smashing the rear bumper and tailgate, it had developed a very loud engine/lifter tick, plus I put 25K miles on it in that year giving it 115K miles when I traded it) - all of that and they still gave me 19K in trade, same as I paid for it from the same dealer the year before, I really couldn't believe they gave me that much for it. I also got almost 10 grand off of the 2020 AT4 diesel I bought, which had the technology package - had everything except the sunroof and carbon pro package. It was right when Covid hit and dealerships were desperate to make a deal. It was a no-brainer trade for me given how the 2013 Ram I had was beat to hell and had engine problems, plus the almost 10 K off the new 2020 AT4 diesel to boot. I got 45K trade value for my 2020 AT4 diesel when I traded it last month for my AT4X, so overall that was a no-brainer deal for me also considering I had 4K of work to do to my 2020 AT4 to get it saleable (if I were to sell it privately).

Update: New wheels and tires came in today .
Had the tire shop harvest the OEM sensors from the oem set.
Just got home from the tire shop .
They were not able to initiate the sensors to the truck but driving it a couple blocks the truck picked them up and all is working well again .

Love the new wheels and tires . I think the all black fuel covert works/looks a lot better with bronze trim the X came with . The grey and black looked great on my 21 AT4 and on my 23 HD Denali.

The new Falken tires are much smoother and quieter than Nitto Recons .

New size is 305/65R18 10ply load range E in English generic terms 34x12.5 to be exact 33.6x12.3 .
Rims = Fuel Covert all black 18x9 +20 .
