gemarsh is correct. This will also disable remote start, right? I use that on hot or cold days to remote start AC.
How is that? I have no experience with them is why I ask.AirTag wasn't designed to replace a GPS tracker, so it comes with one major drawback. It can alert the thief about its existence, letting them find the device in your car.
If the thief has a apple phone, it will alert them that a airtag is near them. Hence will make them search the vehicle for it. However, if you hide it good, it could take them a long time to find it. Also if the thief doesn't have a apple phone they wouldn't know it's there. How is that? I have no experience with them is why I ask.
Yes, the fin is the signal that the app uses like Onstar to get your vehicle's GPS location. So they can remove the fin easily to hide the vehical. One of my best friends is a state trooper and he said on the police cruisers some shifty troopers would block the vehicle GPS tracker on the roof of their cruisers by simply putting a coffee can over it so dispatch couldn't track their vehicle's movements or location. So that may also work on the fin. Really unsure if that works, but makes you think of others ways to block that signal without damaging the truck.I'm curious on something. I installed the GMC App on my phone a while ago, and it has a "locator" feature, that i've actually played with a few times with decent results. If the "fin" was hacked off so Onstar can't see it, would that App still see it?
I don't know about a coffee can, unless it was made out of lead!Yes, the fin is the signal that the app uses like Onstar to get your vehicle's GPS location. I think it would. I have the app on my phone and track both my Terrain AT4 and my husband's trail boss. When I'm up at our cabin I can follow his truck when it's still around 300 miles away. It does have that 'off' feature. I've accidentally started his truck from afar when I forget to switch vehicles on my phone.I'm curious on something. Ravelco is best option for true theft deterrent. Thieves rip off antenna used by On-Star, so immediately disables GPS. So alternate tracking is name of the game.Apparently GM and OnStar are the same company… I guess if you’re in need of fire or ems it’s good to have, but regardless of what happens next, my vehicle will have some mad max kill switch type theft protection, I will not be placing my faith in the OnStar theft protection division again
