Highway Ride Comfort

Let me know if you figure it out! Mine is terrible. And I’m getting an uneasy feeling about some of the glitches with my radio and strange noises from the 3.0 duramax. I expected a lot better given the price tag on these things. 😬. Dealers are pretty useless unless there’s a check engine light. Any concern simply gets a “can not duplicate customer concern”. 🤷‍♂️.

New tires seemed to help the bouncing a little bit, I don’t think they are balanced properly because I have a laughable amount of weights on the rims, but it is much better than the first set of tires.

I replaced just the rear Rancho shocks with the Bilstein 5100 and experienced a noticeably better ride. A little bit more firm but far less bouncy.
The damping ability of the Bilstein's seems to keep the wheels connected to the ground when going over things like railroad tracks. SoCal freeway driving over expansion joints made my eyes vibrate with the Ranchos, cured with the Bilstein rears only.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the feedback. Seems like a good swap from stock. It's always crazy to me that the factory can put in features like heated rear seats but cheap out on the ride parts. I'm going to order a rear set and swap those out. I think 18" wheels may help but until i need to swap tires it seems a bit much to get rid of decent ones. I'll post a review when i have it done.

My new GoodYear tires had flat spots and just not right; in any case I could not use them due to non-3peak rating and replaced them with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires running at 43 psi. That plus new rear spring packs (due to groaning sound) plus 5000 miles have improved the ride. I'm on Multimatics shocks and stuck with them for now.

Finally got the new shocks. I put the rears in yesterday and took the truck for a ride along my usual bumpy route and I noticed a big difference. The ride was still stiff and i could feel the bumps but the rebound didn't have the extra pogo in it so the ride felt a lot smoother. It was just planted better. I can really tell the front end is moving now. The front still wants to bounce while the rear is keeping put. I believe the Bilstein's have better valving so the control of fluid helps keep the rear end more stable.

I was going to do the front as well but decided to just take it to a shop. I don't have a proper tool for compressing the spring and would rather just have someone else deal with it. Plus I might be able to enjoy some coffee and a doughnut and relax without the kids screaming at me. That's worth the extra funds right there.

I'll put in another update when those are done.

Wow, I just bought a 2025 AT4 6.2 and we just went on our first highway trip - now have 400 miles on the odometer. We traded a 2020 Denali 6.2 with mag ride and 42,000 miles.
As we were rolling along about 72 mph, my wife and I agreed that the AT4 rode just as good and quiet as the Denali.
We had factory 22” on the Denali and now have 20” on the AT4.
One thing that might be a difference is that my AT4 came with Bridgestones.

Welcome!

What Bridgestones are you running? I'm sure that has a lot to do with the noise. The stock tread is too aggressive for the highway and I know I will be looking for a replacement when they need it.

I finally got my front Bilstein 5100's put on and they did make a difference to the overall ride. No more pogo after a bump and that made a big difference down the highway over the expansion joints. You can still feel them but I'm sure with a tire swap that would also improve. Maybe even going to 18's would be an option. I bet that would also help.

Hey all! Just purchased a 2024 AT4 6.2L last week. So far I've been enjoying it for the most part. Most of my driving has been around town. However, my family and I took a short trip this weekend and the passengers in the back complained quite a bit about how bumpy of a ride it was. I also felt a little uncomfortable in the front but not terrible. I didn't ride in the back but my daughter said it was like constant little bumps even when we weren't on bumpy/bad roads.

I understand that an at4 isn't necessarily going to be the best in terms of ride comfort compared to an SUV (for example) but has anybody else had this complaint from family and been able to fix it? I see a lot of mention of new shocks (in particular Bilstein 5100) as helping the ride but very few explain what the complaint was before other than the back of the truck getting sideways and it doesn't seem like that's what my issue is. I'd like to hear from others that experienced a similar complaint as mine and if anything worked for them. I'd hate to trade it in already and lose my butt on what is basically a new vehicle if I can get it fixed but also don't want to put even more money in to it and not help resolve the issue.

Edit: Just wanted to add I did see the great write up at https://www.at4forum.com/threads/bilstein-5160-and-6112-shock-review-for-2023-at4.1563/ which says the ride is much better for them now but also it says the ride comfort is the same or a bit less than before so not sure the improved ride they are referring to will help in my situation. I'm not experienced enough to get the difference between ride quality and comfort.
Don't want to state the obvious but what is your tire pressure at? If not towing or carrying heavy weight lowering your tire pressure can smother your ride for free. Down to 50 or 45 makes a big difference.
