Highway Ride Comfort

I remember trying to put 400lbs (10 x 40lb play sand bags) but it did not help; rear springs needed like a 1000lbs to weigh them down. This was before dealer replaced both rear springs, definitely better after that.

Decreasing tire pressure should help but when I have a heavy load in my 2500 it rides noticeably smoother. Empty it rides like a truck and Im ok with that.

Why did dealer replace springs?

I replaced my shocks with Bilstein's on my previous Ram at 30K miles. Made a huge improvement! Granted it was a dually, but it drastically improved the ride...hell, even the wife noticed! Shocks are cheap IMO.

Would it be ok to replace the rear shocks only or do you guys think I need to replace the rears and the fronts? I wanted the bilstein 5160’s but after so much research I’m thinking just going with the 5100’s might be ok. I don’t plan on off roading and if I did it’d be a slow ride down a cool road, nothing crazy or extreme so I’m thinking the oil chamber might not really benefit me at all. Am i thinking about this clearly or are there other benefits to the 5160 that I’m not seeing? My thinking is it’s for heat dissipation when off roading and doesn’t have much to do with additional ride quality right?

Hi Everyone, I picked up a '23 1500 AT4 and I love it. I've had it for about 2 months and about 400 miles of mostly city/highway driving. I love the look and size of this truck. I was a big improvement over my Tacoma that i had for about 13 years. My kids love the room and all the fancy upgrades. They were the main reason I upgraded to a full size truck.
That being said my kids do complain about the back seat bouncing on the highways. Any road with expansion joints seem to give them a pogo stick ride, similar to what the OP was talking about here. I'm curious about any follow up reviews people have regarding that.
I didn't by this truck thinking it would be a long haul comfort vehicle, we have my wife's SUV for that but it would be nice to not have any backseat passengers lose teeth on the highway.
It's a stock truck with the stock Rancho suspension and the 20" wheels and Wrangler tires.
I would be happy to buy a set of 5100's if they would help with this, seems like a cheap improvement if it works.

What a great community though, I've been taking in a lot of info here.

Cheers.

Try reducing tire pressures for a start.

I replaced just the rear Rancho shocks with the Bilstein 5100 and experienced a noticeably better ride. A little bit more firm but far less bouncy.
The damping ability of the Bilstein's seems to keep the wheels connected to the ground when going over things like railroad tracks. SoCal freeway driving over expansion joints made my eyes vibrate with the Ranchos, cured with the Bilstein rears only.
Hope that helps.
