Dealer Update on 6.2L recall service

Got a call last week from my dealer that my vin had been released for the inspection and made an appointment. The 3rd letter came the next day authorizing me to bring it in. So, I brought in yesterday and it passed the picoscope test. New oil, filter and cap. SA told me that they have had very few fail. They also did a Service Bulletin Software Update - Engine Control Mod Reprogramming with SPS. The update is to add to the existing Check Engine Light a Driver Information Center (DIC) warning message if DTC P0016 sets. DTC P0016 signifies that your vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a timing misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft for Bank 1. I guess now it will tell me if I have a problem in the future. Fingers crossed for the rest of you still waiting!

mine is in the process of being built
shouldn't the problems be resolved before they put a faulty engine in mine?
or have the issues been resolved

Have an appointment for Monday morning for the Wifey’s truck.

Had my recall check done on 9/11. Got the same results as SPARKY1. It's just good to know, that GM gave me a light for when the motor is ready to lock up. Damm good job GM! Stand behind your product!

I had my 24 At4 in yesterday for the inspection and it Passed. The only thing that I didnt like was the dealership gave me the usual double talk when I asked to have the extended warranty in writing. First she said they didnt have anything and that I needed to get it from the company. I told her that I bought the truck plus alot of other ones for my company from them.
So, she said that she could email the info. Yet when I told her to just print it out. She told me it was a huge fike and take up a lot of paper.. laughed and said I am pretty sure the dealership can afford the Ink. Anyways. Didnt get anything in writing and guess ill just have to trust the company...

Took my Wife’s truck in today and looks like it passed, got to go pick it up.

Looks like that most are passing that test. I believe they are passing all but the very worse ones hoping half will make it out of warranty with low miles and no failures. The rest will either be crashed and junked or when the engine blows they will be 2 or 3 owners in with no service records and the claims will be denied. It just sucks all the way around. Drive it like you stole it. Get oil changed done at the dealer. Have oil tested at a lab would not be a bad idea either. Get an extended GM warranty or sell it when yours is up so if the engine blows they can't say it wasn't the crank and rod bearings that they are giving you the 10 years extra warranty on. Out of the 721,000 sold with a 6.2 worldwide they expected to replace 21,630 engines according to gm authority so most will pass their test.

I actually thought that it would be the active fuel management. When I asked about it at the dealership the service tech got defensive. I also brought up the fact that my radio would lose connection in car play fairly regularly.
Oh and is a 22 1500 Trailboss, Wifeys truck.

The warranty info will update in GMs global system in about a week. That’s how long it took mine to show up first on the app. Which no longer shows any recall or warranty info. I called dealer and he said any dealer can see the warranty info based on vin. It’ll show up give it time.

Took mine in for an oil change and the dealer said my truck was not on the list for the recall and service department didn’t even offer to change the oil to the new oil. My truck is the 2024 model with the same engine v8 L87 6.2 liter GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. Got it back in November of last year. Ever since they changed the oil it has been sucking the gas and after I drive for an hour there is a smell like burning oil. At first I thought it was because someone oil might have spilled on the engine but it should have burned off by now. Now we got a letter from the GMC about the engine or even about oil change etc. so far I have just over 23000 miles. Fingers crossed nothing bad happens.

Poorly done oil and filter change will result in oil spillage on possibly an exhaust pipe under the truck near oil filter. That could be what you are smelling. I’d find another dealer if they could not tell you by your vin number if your truck was affected by recall or not. Even with no letter my dealer knew my truck was in the recall. I just waited until my number came up then returned the truck and they took care of the recall and oil change. They put the addendum in my glove box that goes in owners manual concerning the 0w40 to be used moving forward.

Agree on oil smell situation and I’m keeping a close eye on the recall situation to see if my truck comes up. Thank you for the input

The recall covers L87s manufactured before June 1st ‘24. My service advisor told me they switched parts and locations last June (my engine was built last July 😳).
