They’re finally looking into the 6.2

Figured my case would be better updated here so as not to further take over a thread someone else posted.

Backstory

My 2024 AT4X 6.2L grenaded last Wednesday (03/12/25) with zero warning other than that morning I started experiencing what I'll call the "death tick." Heard from my service advisor yesterday that the failure was indeed a spun rod bearing and so far we have no ETA/info on replacement parts. I'll update further when I get that info from the dealership.

I will say, though, that I think I agree with @sanny651 in that AFM/DFM doesn't really seem to matter. I've driven my truck in L9 since the day I took delivery (except long highway trips that were 300+ miles...maybe 4 times in the year I've had it) and it grenaded anyway. Oil changes at recommended intervals ONLY at the dealership and 93 octane at every fill-up. I do tow a 22.5' Cobalt with it but because our lakes were at record full levels last year it only saw tow duty maybe a dozen times and less than 30 miles at a time. So there's absolutely nothing I could've done/not done that would've caused the failure. And seemingly nothing I could've done to prevent it. Just luck o'the draw I guess.

We have the at4 2024 Sierra with the 6.2L V8. We were lucky to pay in full for it using our savings we had built up. I worry about this happening to our truck daily but he insists it won't happen to ours. We have only towed with it twice due to his work schedule. But the thought of it happening stays with me when driving. And we can not afford another truck. Hope you can get yours fixed and gm needs to do a total recall on all the models with that engine and replace them or buy them back. I hear the big diesels are doing fine and not much issue. Keep us posted on your truck.

I was fortunate enough to pay off my AT4X last year after about 6 months of ownership so at least I'm not making payments. But I AM paying the insurance on it and it's not exactly cheap. Fortunately I do have my 15 yr old's '21 Bronco to drive and I could always ride my motorcycle if I needed to so I'm not necessarily out of a vehicle. And the dealership did put me in a loaner (2025 Sierra 5.3) but it sits in my driveway because I take the express lane to/from work and that truck doesn't have a toll tag.

I wish anyone with the 6.2L L87 powerplant the best of luck.....I hate to see them failing as I really enjoy the performance and that low-end growl on cold start. I love my truck.....but now....I don't think I trust it. Or GM at all for that matter. But we'll see what happens.

Agree there. Glad you were able to pay your truck off it's hard making those expensive notes each month even on a good salary. Gm used to make good trucks until the computers and such came out. Glad you have an extra vehicle. I have our trusty old Ford f150 2011 model eco boost. Hardly had anything go wrong on it. We pay high insurance down louisiana way and with the price of a new truck these days I keep top insurance just in case. No toll roads in our neck of the woods but they tax the mess out of us to make ip the difference. Have a motorcycle to but have not ridden in many years. .maybe GM will do a recall but not holding my breath on that one. Have a great day

31,169 miles on my 2023 Sierra AT4 with the 6.2L. Engine seized going 50mph....so making my way to the side of the road on a narrow road with no shoulder in rural MN with a dead engine (limiting braking ability) was fun. Metal all in the oil, and there have been exactly zero engines available in the entire world (well not for warranty use, there are plenty of them being put into new rigs on the factory production line so....), so the truck I bought 2.5 months ago is sitting there with absolutely no ETA. Class action is coming I'm assuming.
Sanny651 - I have the same issue with my 2023 Sierra AT4X AEV. 23,550 miles and the engine seized up due to what I've been told is a "thrown Bearing Rod" and very frustrating. I posted earlier the data form the NHTSB's investigation into this issue.

As of Friday morning (3/21) my advisor claims it's a 4-6 week wait on a new engine. And that's assuming the other 200 advisors in the region that have them on order get theirs on time, too. And the saga continues.....

I know it's not going to happen but at this point gm should just buy back the vehicles and give everyone a new truck this is beyond acceptable for a dealership. They can take the loss as a write off like they all do. They need to own up to the defects. Just a crazy thought. I do hope it's soo er than later that you get your truck fixed sooner than later.

Really they need to cease production of any and ALL vehicles that use the L87 platform until all of the downed vehicles are repaired. But they're not going to do that because of corporate greed. Honestly though....as much as I really like my truck....I think I'm pretty likely jumping ship when it's all said and done. Between this issue and the ones with our '23 Yukon AT4......I've kinda lost faith

Always kinda wanted a Ram TRX....but the 10 mpg fuel economy pretty well shut that down with my daily commute. But now the RHO is out.....it's essentially a TRX but with a TT inline 6 that still puts out 540hp.

The real question I have is...why didn't GM ever build a truck to compete with the Raptor & TRX? Seems like EVERYTHING GM has on the market right now (aside from the Corvette) is tame and boring. Even the Camaro has gone away now....seems they've stopped catering to drivers these days. To driving just because it's enjoyable. Too much pandering to the environmentalist nutjobs

Totally agree there they dont make trucks like they used to. But we can't afford another truck so im kinda in a rockand a hard place. Like you said it is all corporate greed. Hope they come to some sort of decision about these engines. It's very stressful driving all the time wondering if the engine may or may not go out. Luck of the draw I guess.

I’m following this 6.2 issue. My truck is an early 2023 AT4X, right when they started putting the AEV stuff on them. I work remotely from home so my truck is driven very little. It currently only has 15,300 miles on it and will be 3 years old January 2026. It runs fine I’ve towed a 6x10 trailer with motorcycles on it a few times and a Polaris ranger side by side once. It’s had several oil changes all done by me using Mobil1 0w20 and ACdelco filters. I’m scared it’ll blow up after the warranty time has expired not the mileage time. I’m still under full warranty now until January 2026 then it’s the powertrain warranty left. I might have 20k on it at 3 year mark. No weird noises coming from it yet. It makes the direct injection clicking sounds when cold started and has turned over a few times funny when hot like battery was low or starter was not right. Truck is kept on a battery tender since I rarely use it so a low battery isn’t possibly unless it’s going bad early. It doesn’t use any oil I can tell but it’s been changed several times. Lost count. I owe about $24,600 on the thing. Insurance for it is surprisingly $300 a year more than my 2024 C8 Corvette which has the 6.2 in it but a totally different motor really. I really have looked at trading off the AT4X but I’ll lose a lot of money I paid full retail ($85k) on this thing back in 2023 there was no bargaining then and my down payment was around $46k. So even though I don’t owe that much now I’ve paid out close to $17k + to GM. Trading it off I lose all of that. I like the truck but this engine failure thing is stupid, GM needs to do the right thing, recall them or extend our warranties. I’m a big GM buyer so if this thing blows I’m done with them entirely.

668HP, 659 Ft-LBs, Supercharged V8 RWD 6 speed... the most non-boring car I have ever owned. I could have bought a C8 Z06 if I wanted. I'll take this any day.

My wife asks me when the Blackwing is showing up in the garage. She knows I love and want one enough that someday there will be one out there for me. I can't wait!

Enjoy man!

It is worth the wait I assure you! From a driving enjoyment perspective, the car is a perfect sweet spot for me. And nothing against Corvettes - I love looking at them, and other exotic sports cars. But my nature as a person is under the radar, so the de-badged Blackwing is my cup of tea. I highly endorse the manual transmission. The combination of the supercharged V8 + manual + RWD is what makes the car so intoxicating to drive. Also very rare compared to something like a Corvette. I read they made over 43,000 units in 2024. Cadillac has made a total of 5000+ CT5-V Blackwings over 3 model years 22-24, and less than half were manual.

Sounds like it will be worth it! I have the same thoughts/feelings as you and know this car is for me. I only want a manual. After that, I am not concerned with packaging, as I can add/mod as I go. I know I will have it for a long time. I'm still in the process of building it's home and purchasing a business, so it's on back burner, but I'll have one someday. I can feel it!
