Mild build 24 AT4X

What's the reasoning for the 2x4's on the bed rails? Just to make it harder to get in the tent? 😁
Looks like he he using them as spacers to raise the rack up, and then he has additional ones under the tent to raise it a little bit more. He's trying to get the right hight for clearances.

I couldn’t find the perfect height rack so had to improvise. It’s only temporary until I get back to my shop in New Mexico. There I will replace with aluminum tube or extrusions.
It’s a fine line between too tall to fit through a 7’ garage door and tall enough to clear that stupid antenna.

It’s not a 70’s 1/2 ton pickup with tons of frame flex so I’m hoping this will be enough clearance. We will see soon enough.

I wished these trucks and equipment were around when I was younger. No way in heck could I get up in that tent, well, maybe, but not out! 😁

We had square bodies and maybe slide-ins! Right @True Bee? 😁

On second thought maybe not. I would have missed cheap drag racing, no epa and the ability to speak my mind and buy guns from the Sears catalog! 😁
When I was a kid I grew up traveling the country with mom and dad and my brother in a 72 GMC with a slide in camper. We called it the Galloping Goose. Dad was a firefighter in a major US city and only worked 100 days a year so we traveled a lot.
It gave me many of my fondest memories and a better education than college. I believe it also started me on my career path.

So I managed to get 400 watts of CIGS solar panels(2x200watt) on the roof of my tent. This should be enough to keep my Bluetti charged up enough to run my heated mattress pad and keep my 50mph/80 mile range scooter charged up. The brackets with the Benehike branding came mounted to the side of the tent but I moved them to the front/back because they provide some protection to the leading edge of the roof.

Hello everyone, I’m Erik, currently living in southern Louisiana, and Eastern Iowa but I call New Mexico home.
The day I brought it home. A couple weeks later I drove it partly across the country, NM to Louisiana.

Ordered a winch bumper from 589 Fabrication(6 week build time), Super Winch SX10SR, Reno billet aluminum shackles and winch hook.
I haven’t settled on lights yet. 589Fab says it’s designed for 2 Baja Designs LP6’s and 2 LP4’s. I just don’t know if I want to spend as much on 4 lights as the combined costs of the bumper and winch. I will probably go with a cheaper option.

Love it!

👍 We owe alot to our parents.
You're not kidding. My parents were very strict, demanded very high academic results, however gave me the best school/high school education, little to no pocket money, anything I got was based on academic results, it gave me a great start in life; left home when I was 16 and the rest is self made.

Under GODS hand, with GODS grace. Amen

So I got the solar hooked up yesterday afternoon at about 4pm here in New Mexico. The sun was pretty low on the horizon already and my truck was facing about 110°(20° south of due east)
This is my very first solar anything and I was a little disappointed at the results. Initial solar output was a paltry 185-200watts on a 400 watt system. I then popped the latches on the drivers side of the tent and let the gas struts lift only that side of the roof. This gave it about a 35-40° angle facing approximately 200°(20° west of due south). The results were spectacular! 360-365 watts of output. I think this is going to work very well. I should have no problem keeping all my gear charged up and refrigerator going making for an enjoyable experience. It appears these CIGS panels are worth their exorbitant price.
