Factory extended warranty

I agree. But it’s supposed to just pull signal from the port when the door opens, the power comes from the battery where the steps and cpu for steps is hard wired. My biggest frustration is they charged me the fish fee to say this, and they have no way of knowing this is the fix. I’ve contacted the amp dealer and installer about this as now I can’t use my steps, and also brought up to the gm dealer that if it happens again, that I’ll want a refund. I’ve also wondered about the I dash, with my steps, I assumed I couldn’t add that because of my steps.
Did your steps come with your truck or did you get them installed on the side? If they didn't come with your truck when you bought it then it would make sense why they charge you a diagnostic. Did unhooking your steps fix the screen flicker?

The screen issue would come and go very randomly. And just for a day or so. So to answer your question no, the steps didn’t come with the truck. I tried and tried to get the factory steps added. But got told no by three different dealers, that they are only added at the factory. So I went with amp steps after a long process of decision making on which steps to with. My 5yr old couldn’t get in and out for the car line drop off. Or probably wouldn’t have gotten them. But my ford platinum had them and I did miss having them. So as to determining if this is the fix it’s not 100% yet. The boards are unplugged and will run it that way until the truck freaks out again and I demand my money back for the diagnostic. I also reached out to the amp dealer and they said amp has never had anyone else report this issue with a gm vehicle. They are sending out a new port connector. If at that time it freaks out my truck I’ll be having them refund the fee. And coming up with a new solution to wire my boards. I never thought when buying the truck that I couldn’t add the factory boards. Such a simple thing.

Nothing is simple anymore. Everything is a module. If it starts acting up again then it's safe to rule out the steps but if it doesn't do that again then it was your steps all along.

It's possible that when you installed them, that there was no issue for a while. Then an over the air update likely came through and that messed up whatever software those steps depend on.

Back to your original post - as you've now experienced, being under warranty - you still paid out of pocket. The dealer will always find a reason to deny you. Which is why I am always against extended warranties or additional warranties that they like up selling and you wind up paying out of pocket anyway when they deny the claim.
