Duramax LZO how does everyone like this engine?

I have two buddies that had issues with the 3.0 diesel. One had the emissions/def issues that took them a few times to get fixed but it’s fine now.
The other buddy had the rear main seal oil leak issue. It’s been 6 months and now they are replacing the motor completely after 3-4 seal replacements. He can’t decide to sell the truck after they fix it and get something else or keep it.

Yeah, how does a person know if new issues, that seem to have become consistent, are going to actually become "fixed"? I loved the 3.0 engine in that truck, had no reason or desire to get rid of it or trade it, but it had me in a real pickle as I had been working out of state already for 3.5 weeks, and it delayed me being able to drive the 1000 mile trip back to MT for 4 freaking weeks with the dealership unable to fix it or even really figure out what was wrong with it. It felt like they were blindfolded throwing darts at the issue.

I do really like this new AT4X, and the 6.2 is more fun to drive. It actually costs me less out of pocket for fuel with the current prices of diesel vs gas. Gas where I live is 65% the cost of diesel, and while the 6.2 doesn't get nearly the mileage, it is still less expensive in fuel costs than the diesel overall. My biggest issue is the 24 gallon tank leaves a range of 350 miles (could probably stretch it to 400 if driving to near empty), where the 3.0 diesel got 500+ range. It is annoying they put a 24 gallon tank in a truck that is gonna get 15 mpg on the hwy. Needed to be at least a 28 gallon tank.

But back to the 3.0 engine - great engine, but mine (and it seems some others on these engines) are having some of the same issues, making the truck unusable. I don't have any other vehicles to drive, for work or personal, besides my truck. I can't afford to be stranded and/or without a driveable vehicle because the on board computer system puts you in limp mode from what could be multiple issues that are hard to diagnose/fix from codes throwing a "service emissions system" thing. And being just beyond 36K miles, they weren't going to fix it under warranty. Even if they did, I can't afford to wait weeks or a month for my truck to be useable.

I hope others don't have the nightmare situation I did. My wife actually has a 2020 AT4 diesel truck (we bought them at the same time), and this problem with mine has got her thinking about getting rid of hers also. She wants a Tahoe/Surburban because we haul a bunch of kids around often and one of those makes more sense for her/us. She loves her truck, but I think we will trade hers off in the next year because of what I went through with mine.

I'm approaching 3K miles on my LZO and its been perfect. Excellent power and MPG. No issues...yet...
I did have to add DEF at 2,700 miles which I thought was odd, I understood that you can get close 5K-7K before needing more DEF. I haven't towed yet, I have a good mix of around-town and highway driving and am loving it. My first diesel, and so far so good.

Most dealers will fill a vehicle up with fuel at purchase but few will top off the DEF tank. Most only add a 2.5 gallon jug and send the truck out.
It’s pretty dumb when you bought a $80k+ truck and they cheap out on $9 of def.

I would get 1500 to 2000 miles on a 5 gallon DEF tank usually. But I live at 6100 ft elevation in the mountains, and also pull a fairly heavy trailer almost daily as a contractor.

I found ambient temp and what you are doing with the truck make difference in how fast the DEF tank emptied. It was still no big deal to fill it up every couple thousand miles or so, and I think I figured it cost me like a cent a mile or so for DEF. I did try to have an extra 2.5 gallon DEF jug with me in my truck often, but even then, it wouldn't put you into limp mode until 500 miles of empty DEF, and that limp mode was 65 mph top speed. Not a big issue or expense. Unless your DEF/emissions system causes you issues, which seems to be an issue that is popping up on these engines. Probably most newer (post 2009) diesels that have the DEF mandatory can have these types of issues. They can be a bugger to diagnose from what I have read.

I've got about 4k miles on my 23' and the check engine light came on yesterday with an emissions system issue.

Welcome to the club, mine was at 1700 miles. Sorry to hear that…. So far I got a new DEF control module installed, and now the dealer has an entire new DEF tank ordered to address a loose connection with a sensor built into the tank …oh and of course that’s on “national backorder” too.

Picked my LZ0 up first week of November. 4500 miles on it. Only one issue and that was smoke coming from under the hood during Regen. Turned out to be leaking turbo coolant line. Repaired this week just took 200 mile round trip and got 27.8mpg doing 75 mph on I-95.

Better MPG, Much better torque and no turbo lag like my previous Ram EcoDiesel.

Here is post to the thread about the smoke under hood. Couple of good comments and some talk about HotShot

Currently have a 2023 AT4 with the LZO in the shop with 4000 miles on it. Supposedly has a bad EGR Valve and bad sensor. Sensor is on back order with no ETA.

Right now, I’d recommend not buying one as they don’t have the parts to fix it or do so at your own risk. Dealership told me that they currently have 6 2023 LZOs in the shop with the same issue.

Are all 2023 the LZ0?
I’m picking up a 2023 in a couple weeks and didn’t see it one way or another on the window sticker.

My 2023 GMC Sierra At4 3.0 idles at 1,900 rpm sometimes and 1,500 sometimes? Any ideas or suggestion?

I am contemplating giving up on my AT4X order after 12 months of waiting for it to arrive. I am now considering an AT4 Diesel. I know about it’s fuel economy but how is the power, towing and reliability?
I have had my LZ0 for two months, 9k miles, average 33 mpg coming out of the Appalachian mountains 75mph best diesel vehicle I've ever owned.

(knocking on wood) right at 3K miles no issues, added DEF but that was just me being anxious - it was still about 1/4 full
