Blacked Out Emblems

Anyone have pictures or a video or even the GMC instructions for removing the grill badge on the 1500?
Imagine a "V". The emblem has a tab on the back that slides into the "V" and the "V" locks it in place. You really need to access it from the back side. I removed mine when I changed out my chrome grille to black.

If you're going to replace the GMC, you can force it off from the front but will probably back the tabs on the logo,

Remove the grill entirely, then slowly remove each better by compressing the clips on the back of each letter. Then just pop the new ones in. Removed mine to hyper dip the chrome. Wasn't that bad at all.

I decided to remove the chrome AT4 emblems and install blacked out ones. Also modified the 22-23 grill emblem to fit the 19-21 grill. The black emblems looks a lot better in person, so if you’re debating to change yours out then View attachment 4454View attachment 4455View attachment 4456View attachment 4457View attachment 4458I recommend doing so.View attachment 4468
I prefer the black emblems to the fake plastic-chrome too.

It’s still a gut-punch every time I see GM or Ford parts stamped “Made in China”. If we keep relying on them to make everything we want/need we’re gonna be hosed when they decide to stop making a few of the things we need most.

Yup. I broke the tabs on mine, but I was going to toss the OEM logo anyway. It was going in the dumpster anyway.

I went back and forth on this for a while...definitely didn't like the all chrome look, but wasn't digging the all blacked out look.

So I compromised and went with an overlay for the emblems and Hyperdipped the GMC emblem.

I will say the Hyperdip has NOT chipped at all...which is crazy to think considering it's just sprayed on. The vinyl overlays are also extremely durable...not pulling up at all.

Finally got the side badges installed when my truck was in the shop for hail damage.

Did you do the exhaust tips yourself?
I painted a set when I had my Trailboss but I wasn't happy with them long term. The paint would sorta wear off on the horizontal surface where the exhaust exited. For the AT4 I had them powder coated by a local friend. No issues with the powder coat.

I painted the exhaust tips on my AT4 with high temp flat black spray paint about a year ago and they have held up well. I haven't done a lot of off roading so less chance of rock chips. Flat black may hold up better than a gloss. I also spent the time to do proper surface prep and multiple light coats of paint until I was happy with the results

To @Wakinvol point though, power coating is likely to be the better option in the long run.

I used high temp semi gloss, and even after scuffing the chrome it seemed to come off. BUT, I did a lot of cleaning with my pressure washer. Wasn’t flaky but it just wasn’t perfect. The powder coat is perfect.

I detail with a power washer as well, but its high flow, lower pressure, than a general purpose power washer. If I ever have to paint them again, I'd probably go the powder coat route, but for now the paint is holding up.

Aside from the black badging on mine, I just did smoked amber markers, vinyl overlays. It definitely tones down that amber/orange of the factory lights.

I bought some tint to overlay my lights but took it off after the first night. Im not a fan of making my truck less visible at night.
