Anyone towing a car on a open car hauler trailer?

No problem I was worried front from a 20 Cummins to a 1500 and I have a 2024 6.2 1500 AT4 I pull my grand design trailer at 7,800 lbs up a grade in Tahoe that VW beetles can’t do in the summer and I set the cruise at 70 just to see if it would hold and had no issues. Tows really well I also tow a 26 foot enclosed car hauler it’s 3800 empty and my SXS is about 2,300 no issues and I live in the mountains. I actually used my brothers 2024 chev 5.3 to tow all my things before I bought the 1500 to see if I was confident in it. Figured his 5.3 did great so why not get the 6.2. Oh and I get about 8
How's the squat with your grand design trailer?

For those who say you won’t even know it’s back there that’s Beeeewlshite! You will definitely know because these are Just half tons! I pull heavy with mine - too heavy sometimes but just on farm , ranch roads. My equipment trailer weighs 3400# and the truck pulls it beautifully but if you add 2k on top of it your truck and you will definitely know it! My trailer has huge breaks on both axles so that helps tremendously. I do have air bag supports so I can maintain a level ride which is also a huge help- it also keeps the rear end stiff along with E range tires . For the Op, yes , it will pull it safely With trailer brakes on both axles up and downhill. A half ton is just a half ton and Yes these particular trucks will squat even with 4000 # total.

These trucks squat with a
Case of paper towels in the bed.

It doesn’t because I use a weight distribution hitch but without it the bump stops are an inch off the bottom. I also use it on my car 8.5x26 hauler. My flatbed trailer with a XP4 1000 General that’s enclosed with tracks is just under 6k and it squats it a bit not terrible.

Good to know, thanks!

I tow my Chevelle 3500 lc in an encloed trailer with my 6.2 At both my 2017 and now my 2023
I tow 2000 miles one way canada to Arizona every year for the winter
I have Sumo Springs same as Timbrens & a good equalizer hitch properly set up
Tow in L8 at 2000 rpm 70 mph
Absolutely no problem lots of powerto pass and brakes are not an issue trailer has 4 wheel brakes
No sway passing semi’s or going thru mnts lots of power
Last spring averaged 11 mpg
If alot of headwinds mileage goes for a crap 😀
a good WD hitch is key with 1500 IMO
I use the E-Q- Lizer brand has built in sway control not cheap but way better than the chain style bar systems
Ive seen lots of 2500 pulling enclosed with basic bumper hitch they dont sag but they sure sway

Any sag with your set up?

Any sag with your set up?
No sag when hitch set up right so both front and back wheels are down about an 1” to make truck dead level
I replaced the bump stops with sumo springs set at at 1/2” air gap & WD hitch so can adjust level
but for me takes too much weight off back tires so have it set so front down 1/2” and rear 1” that works for me
My hitch weight is 475 lb

My 6.2 AT4 tows my 2020 Attitude 21SA to Glamis and Ocotillo Wells every other weekend. Round trip is about 300 miles to Glamis and includes 2 heavy grades up through Palomar Mountain and Warner Springs.
Loaded up with the rzr turbo s, 50 gallons of water and 35 gallons of E85 is about 9500 pounds. Hitch weight is 600 lb dry and believe it's less with the rzr loaded inside. I use an EAZ Lift weight distribution hitch. It has sway control but I never got around to setting it up because I felt I didn't need it. Sag is pretty much eliminated with the WD hitch and its a comfortable 1 hand drive for me.
I average about 10-11 mpg maintaining 55 mph and never go faster. I don't know why people try to do 70 when towing heavy, they are NOT ENGINEERED for that type of abuse. Tow with consideration of the legal limit and the truck will handle it with ease.
One thing to note is that I am also on 34" WildPeak AT/3 10 ply (E Rated) tires with 17" methods.

People forget trailer tires are not meant to do 80. Nice looking rig.

I was pissed off the other day I was coming out of carefree highway and 101…. Traffic was doing the normal 85-90 and I got passed by 3 3/4 ton lifted trucks on 37s ish towing RZRs and can ams doing over 100 weaving in and out of traffic like it was a game they acted like they didn’t have trailers and were out of control It was so bad I can’t even begin to articulate it.

Thank you.
Not to mention trailer hubs. I had to learn that one the really hard way heading out to Havasu. Getting stranded in the middle of the desert at 12 am made me think twice pushing the limits of my rig.

No pissing on coming from me all valid points and you took the time to type it all out, point well taken I assure you (y)
Thank you. I have seen something so horrible on the highway that I'd give anything to forget, I don't burden people minds with the details. Any towing question, I usually give all the details. Hopefully I saved somebody out there from a jack-knife.
