6.6L gas or Duramax for upcoming purchase?

I went with a 3500 gasser this time. This motor mated to the new 10spd is a performer. I went 3500 gas for most payload. I don't tow heavy everyday, but I do haul. I drive a lot of stop and go back roads. If you're driving highway, just get on it (duramax) here and there to keep it clear. Hwy mileage I'm getting 16-17, but backroads 10. Not sure how the diesel would do with my driving habits. If I were towing/pulling heavier trailers more often, I'd go diesel. In the end, sounds like you should go with the gas though. I absolutely love driving this big Ole beast.

I want to thank everyone for your responses. After considering both the D-Max and gasser, I couldn’t help but get the diesel as the 8,600lb truck feels “sporty” and light on its heavy feet. Wait, that really doesn’t make sense lol. What I’m trying to say is the diesel gives me smiles per miles. The additional maintenance cost isn’t something that was a deal breaker for me. I’m sure the gasser is a stud engine, but the sound and feel of the diesel is intoxicating. Now, please don’t be upset at me but I kinda went to the dark side as the ZR2 called my name a little more than the AT4. Both are amazing. I hope I don’t get flamed for posting pics of my ZR2 in an AT4 forum :p Cheers.

Same truck, kinda. ;)

Congratulations! Great choice! I think you would have been happy with either motor. Both are very powerful compared to what we were driving twenty and thirty years ago — and even then we managed to get where we needed to go and enjoy the ride.

If they abuse you over on the Chevy forum, or they can’t understand your questions, c’mon back here. I now have two extra GMC tailgate emblems, so we can get your truck properly dressed so you can hang with us. Also, once the GMC emblems are attached you’ll be able to drive your truck without wearing a bag over your head, and that’s safer! 😁;)

once you own a diesel you will never go back to gas , the torque is so much fun . i love beating BMW's off the line at red lights, they are like what just happened ?? that 8000 pound truck just kicked my ass

I love beating diesel trucks as well as BMW's off the line at red lights. :)

Be careful, even though we've all done it at traffic light stops. Although I try and avoid it, I may do it if I end up being on the outside lane at a stopped traffic light and two lanes merge into one past the traffic light. I think I'm gettin old; with Insurance rates so high, I do my best not to be pulled up by the law.

Exhibition of speed: Most states have laws that prohibit dangerous driving like street racing, drag racing, peeling out, spinning donuts, and other maneuvers designed to show off speed on public roads. Yet the law is struggling to prevent residential neighborhoods being used for spinning donuts etc. in Seattle WA.

I rarely do it to be sure.

Recently I did witness a Mustang get pulled over before he hit about 40 in a 55, apparently for exhibition of speed. He did not spin any tires so I was pretty surprised at the entire thing.
