Which dash cam to buy????

I have an Escort dash cam that has pass thru power to my radar detector. It is powered off the rear view mirror. When I am parked I can use a power bank to keep it going in park mode without issue. Only limit is the size of the battery used.
I installed an FitCamX on my wife’s Terrain and it looks great. Almost like it came from the factory. Easy install including the rear camera. They have an option to take power from the OBD2 port for parking functions. Great price too.

No comments on the dirty windshield, lol.

Given my AT4 has cameras alreadyI'm hunting for something that can leverage the existing cameras and do the view/record to a box plugged into the OBDII or USB port in my truck. Some software must be out there. Anyone heard of anything?

Negative.

Great idea for sure. I never found anything that would do the trick. I was told years ago that Corvettes had a live full time camera system integrated into the OBD, but never found any proof to validate that. I ended up mounting a ROVE R2-4K Dual camera in my truck. Works so good I bought a second for my wife’s car. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I would suspect that the way the cameras are configured now that the power draw to run the full system as it is now designed would be too much. Not that it can’t be done but they would need to isolate the minimum needed to keep the batteries from getting drained if sitting long term.

My BlackVue dashcams with a sim, connected to BlackVue Cloud (for remote view), consumes around 500mA. It has an option to connect to truck battery in parking mode however I've equipped it with 14,000mAh backup batteries which charge while the truck is running. 14,000mAh has been enough to keep the dashcam running in parking mode for around 28hrs.

Update: Cadillac CT6 has "Surround Vision Recorder" which can do the recording while still or moving. It is a Cadillac only feature/system. I wonder if I bought the parts...could I get it to work?

That's above my paygrade. My money, though, is on the NO button.

With enough cash anything is possible, but I'm guessing by now gm will have made some damn module in the system that needs programming at the dealer.

I've been rolling with the Blackvue dash cam for years now and love them. Brought the one over from my Jeep and installed in the AT4.

Just ordered a Blackvue DR970X for the AT4 - been running one in my other truck for several years and am quite happy with it.
