Tailgate emblems: Keep or Debadge

I recently swapped my chrome emblems for black ones. While I had SIERRA off, I started to think it’s a bit of a cleaner look. Just curious what others thought too. Keep the black SIERRA or take it off?

Keep … and I don’t understand the obsession some people have with rebadging their vehicles.

To me, having a black wrap, black wheels, black mirrors, black windows (5% tint), it would only make sense to have black emblems too instead of chrome. But everyone's taste is different.

I took everything but the AT4 off the tailgate. I don't like emblems that much anyway.

It’s just a matter of personal taste.

I’m a truck-a-holic and a jeep-a-holic, but I prefer the simple look and, if I’m going to have badges, I don’t want a bunch of fake chrome or plasti-color that doesn’t match my vehicle. My jeep is a Rubicon, but I removed that badge too. And I don’t like the giant fake chrome mirrors Ford and Dodge sometimes force on higher trim levels. I’ll spend money to avoid that look while others will apparently pay to achieve it.

I felt the same way about my Ford Raptor. It was a great truck, and I liked the looks, but in 2018 I had a heck of a time finding a new one that didn’t have the big, bold, look-at-me-graphics plastered all over it.

Similarly, some guys like to advertise their profession, former branch of service, favorite firearms brands, and political affiliation — but that’s just defining yourself for people you don’t know. I prefer to remain an anonymous sleeper.

This could get addicting. On previous vehicles I have used fishing line but this time I used heat gun and plastic pry tool. Each emblem removal is different but in my experience, heating and prying leaves way LESS adhesive to remove with adhesive remover than fishing line.

I had that and blacked out side markers planned but keeping it this way is growing on me. I've got two jeeps to give all my extra $ to.

Did you spray with Plasti/Hyper Dip and then peel off the part on the red emblem? I was planning to do that but for right now I like the all black.

They where hyper dipped. Then just peal away off the red and paint. 6 coats, with dry time in between coats. Was fairly easy. The only hard part was the "4" and the "x". Had to use a toothpick and slowly and carefully peal away the parts I didn't want covered.

I agree with others on here, the tailgate had too much going on. Pulled the “Sierra” emblem within the first week. Thinking about pulling the GMC logo as well. Don’t like they still outline it with chrome, small detail I know just bugs me.

I think gm should have kept the chrome on brother Denali and used vader chrome throughout on the AT4 like used on the grill, fog light bezels and fender badges.

Same with the bronze color for the at4x
