Yeah my final plan would be to have 2 power switches, one under the hood and one mounted somewhere in the rear. That would make life much easier but it is a little pricey. There is another option. GM Makes upfitter switches for these trucks.

The other thing to note is the connection to the battery. You may not have to deal with it because you have the HD with dual batteries. But on the 1500, I had to purchase the upfitter switch hardware and fuse kit to connect to the battery because GM put loads of power connections on top of the battery and makes it difficult to run any cable to the battery terminal.
