Loss of power

My issue is NOT RESOLVED; following overnight parking, batteries go down to 11volts rendering the truck unusable I still blame the latest software upgrade as the culrprit. The issue is if I start the truck and take it to the dealer, it may not show anything unless they are able to measure ambient current draw when parked. I could do the same myself by placing an ammeter in series with each battery while parked however its not going to tell me which component is drawing power without pullling each fuse out, a laborious task. Anyone know what capabilities exist at the dealer? Can they plug into the computer etc. and nail the issue down?

Any ideas @gemarsh?

Yes, a scanner should show what module is still awake and drawing power.

Did your software update complete for sure at the dealer? I believe dealers can force install, but I'm led to believe they can't back install.

I was told they had done it but over the air I believe, which is pretty useless since I've tried ths same too. At this time I believe its still related to software update issue. I'm thinking of resetting Infotainment and/or disconnecting battery for ten or more minutes; locating computer module fuse, anything to make this thing work again.

There are two updates that come pretty close together depending on how ur equipped

One does a bunch of things including reset rear seat sensor to on (software, audio, blue tooth (screen boot time))

The other has to do with park assist.

Whatever they were, they messed up my truck :(

Make sure that your dealer puts in the "notes" how many times your batteries have been drained. As you are aware I'm sure, it's not good for them to be discharged too many times. It's a good thing it's not winter, batteries go quick when they freeze after being drained.

I'm having the same exact issue right now. It's been sluggish starting the past few mornings, and I had to jump start this morning (battery was down to 10.96V). Now it's idling to get some charge and my lights are flickering. I also believe it's related to a failed OTA update. I get an "Unable to Update" message in my settings. I have reset the Infotainment, I've disconnected both batteries (30 minutes, negative side only though), both did not resolve. I've got an appointment at the dealer tomorrow morning but your experience doesn't give me hope. This is frustrating as hell.

Work in Progress. Infotainment reset did not help. Battery had drained by this morning again. This time I did the vehicle reset from the reset selection from Infotainment screen. (once I was able restart my truck with a 200amp floor charger). Prior to that I noticed a 2-3amp current draw from the passenger side battery alone which is clearly enough to drain batteries, assuming the same was from the driver side battery. Following a complete reset, the ambient/parasitic draw after waiting around 10 minutes to allow computer to switch off, well almost, is like a .1amp or thereabouts per battery.

In the meantime I find the driver side step has stopped working, no idea why, passenger side is fine. I may have moved or blown a fuse somewhere, and was just about to look at the fuse chart.

More updates to follow....:(

Absolutely right; I'll let him know. In any case I'll replace both batteries next year if they appear to have reduced capacity or make the GMC pay for a part of them.

Sometimes, a dealer installs LoJack or another tracker using an OBD-II data link split connector. Then you, as the consumer (or original consumer), decline the product, but the tracker is still running in the car. The dealership doesn't remove it; they sell the car. This will also block the update! Similar issues with Carbyte or other ECU enhancers (unplug them)

Telltale signs are a sticker in the door jam that looks odd, also get under the dashboard with a flashlight, you can see the extra wires (they are notoriously sloppy in the install)

I found I will need a scan tool to reset running board or will have to take it to the dealer (what a pain). I have an old scanner but I think its time to purchase a new bi-directional one; recommendations welcome!

Have an appt with the dealer tomorrow; hopefully they will fix it right this time. They will also check battery capacities although I may request they replace both batteries.

Well add me to the list! Went to start today after not running her for the last 10 days and she barely cranks over. Get the traction and esc lights on. I check the update menu and it says I'm at 22% updated....I never told the damn thing to start! I let it run for 30 mins in the driveway and it only gets to 33%...WTF! I turn it off and hook up my battery tender...I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings!

Christ all mighty. I'm sure gm will get the bugs out of the system, but damn, glad I'm still in the non-refresh trucks, non global b system. When I need to go, I need to go, don't have time for a damn dead battery.

I'm not any kind of special, I'm just like everyone else and dead batteries pisses me off.

I just counted in my head....I have 36 12v batteries in equipment, trucks and power units. It takes time to maintain batteries just for normal issues. I'd be livid if I had a battery issue from a f**king update!

This is a result of the latest update for sure; once it suffers an incomplete install, it appears the truck is doomed (at least in my case) even if a subsequent install is successful. Let us know how it goes.
