Let's see those AT4 1500 trucks towing!

An AT4 can tow another over 100 miles!

Might be a bad angle, but that doesn't look like I would have wanted to have towed that more than a few miles. Glad all got home safe.
It was squatted pretty good. Picture angle does make it look worse. The drive wasn’t too bad except the short scenic bypass across arbuckle mountains because of a highway accident. I wouldn't make that a routine for sure.

First long tow with AT4 3.0l LM2. 1500miles. About 5500lbs. 14.3mpg @ 70-75. About 250mpg of Def. For comparison my old SLT with the 5.3l was 9.4mpg with the same setup.

5100's up front, 6112's in the rear. They improved the ride significantly, did well towing, but the dual res rear shocks had a bit of road noise over big bumps. There was no way to get rid of that rattle, and it was infuriating. If I had it to do over, and I was keeping my AT4, I'd have found something bigger and better. You really shouldn't need to do that in the top of the line off road truck from a manufacturer.

I got tired of always chasing something with this vehicle. Whether it was the electrical gremlins after an update, the poor ride, the poor interior comfort, etc... so I went back to Toyota. Good luck with your rigs, folks!

How has that Pro been treating you? It was a bad road for me.

Have towed my boat many times and many miles since getting the truck in August ‘22, but finally stopped and snapped some pics. The 3.0 tows great but the summer heat gets the engine oil and transmission temps a little high for my liking…

New 2022 Passport GT 2951BH
6500lbs dry and a Tongue Weight of 750ish
Picture from the side is with no air in the air bags, surprised how little sag there is. I towed it back from Spokane, WA to north of Seattle. I had cruise set at 70-73 and the truck pulled great.

Heading out this weekend for another trip to the SW Washington coast, just under 500 miles roundtrip. Curious to see how much the 35x11.50 Mickey's hurt the MPG when towing. It's been down about 1-1.5 while not towing.

Not sure is same in that diesel but If your towing in Drive and covertor is licking and unlocking and trans is shifting up and down it builds heat fast
Saw this In my last 6.2 AT4 8 spd towed in 6 around 2-2200 very little shifting trans ran cool got better mileage at constant rpm
In my 23 6.2 10 spd I tow in 8th 1800-2000 samething runs cool best mileage when trans not shifting up down
Tow Haul is the worst for heat never use it
I tow 7000lbs 1500 mile plus trips
FWIW

Curious what temps you’re seeing?

The previous poster is correct, the trans temps take off when shifting a lot and are fine when cruising. However the oil temp will start to take off when the engine is under load for a long time with no breaks, like on a long steady climbing grade (doesn’t even need to be that steep).

Highest transmission temp I have seen is about 210-215 when in town going through repeated stoplights / stop signs. Highest oil temp was around 260-262 (I have an alert in my iDash when it gets to 255), but the oil cooler seems to do a decent job of catching it and bringing back down to the 240s.

I will disagree on the tow/haul mode though, I use it every time since it limits shift rate to help keep transmission temps down and is also how you engage the exhaust brake on the 3.0.

Going from memory here last long tow was in March
Mine is 6.2 Oil temp right around 205 -220 on long hills
Trans temp 200

I find Tow Haul leaves it in lower gear too long and downshifts quick and rpm gets over 3 k in steep hills thats when oil temp goes up the 6.2 can pull fine in normal mode

22' Express bay boat, I usually don't tow over 68mph, my oil temps will reach 250-254. The computer sensors will drop my coolant temp drastically when oil temp gets up to 250. My coolant when not towing will run 216 - 224, but I have seen it drop coolant temps to 197 to get oil temps back down.
Oil temps when not towing and at highway speeds (75-80) usually run around 244 with the coolant regulating it down when it gets close to 250. I have never had oil temps over 255.
The highest I have seen trans temps was 202 and that was in Houston idling in traffic for long periods of time.
2021 3.0.
