Infotainment Differences among GM's?

I was orginally bummed that using Android Auto or Carplay didn't allow full screen in my 23 AT4X. I use Android, and feel Android Auto is clunky.

I actually have a wire Carply device, which ironically runs full Android OS, that allows me to install any Android app onto the device (which shows up as a phone). Yes, this means one can install Netflix or similar and watch it on the display. But only the left 2/3rds of the display, as the right 1/3rd is for the clock, small navigation screen, or music app. I have come to like this, though. I use my Carplay device (again, it runs full Android so can install/run any android app) for multiple things on the left 2/3rds of the display, but use the right 3rd for the vehicles built-in google maps Nav. That way I can have the left 2/3rds of the display for my carplay (android) apps if I want, and the right 1/3rd of the screen for google navigation. This works well for me.

I mainly use mine for maps when traveling or calls when driving. But imy android keeps loosing connection and glitches. So going to get a different phone and hopefully have better luck on connection and display

I've done lots of research on these but so many mixed reviews around phone (voice) capabilities/delays and disconnecting issues, that I just can't stomach $300+ for 1/3 more of a screen 'sometimes'.

No that's not just Android Auto....CarPlay has similar issues, too. Almost like it gets hung up on certain things, especially Pandora (yeah I'm kinda old) and I'll have to either restart my phone or stop and soft reset the infotainment system (press the home button on the unit and hold the end call button on the steering wheel at the same time for 10 seconds)

But.....it happens in multiple vehicles and not just GM. Same thing happens in my son's Bronco

Can you tell me how you get it to do the turn by turn un the HUD display. Mine will only show the speed or pedestrian unless im paying for the on star subscription service. Honest question really.
Turn by turn and speed limit in the HUD require a data connection but do not require an OnStar subscription. You can pay ATT through OnStar to keep the data connection to the truck or you can drop OnStar and use the Hotspot feature of your phone to provide data to the truck.

1. Set up the hotspot feature on your phone (make sure your plan has sufficient data for this)
2. Go into the infotainment settings in the truck, select wifi conectivity, find your hotspot and connect to it (I needed to add my hotspot manually)

All that money for a vehicle and technology and they still have glitches like that. Boggles the mind. I’ll have to try a soft reset and see how that goes. Thanks for the tips.

I use carplay with an iPhone and wanted the full map like i can do with my bronco. I am not going to pay the price they want for onstar so i can use GPS. I set up a hotspot on my phone and connected it to my truck. I set up a shortcut automation on my phone when CarPlay connects, it launches a hotspot so each time i get in my truck it automatically connects and I get full size google maps. Only issue is that you cannot use voice activation on the google maps or it overrides Siri.

Thank you I will have to try that. Because when I went to connectivity it only give me the truck wifi and not the option to connect the truck to my hot spot on my phone. Thanks for the info.

I had to manually enter the name of my hotspot. I also use an app called Auto Hotspot to automatically make a conection to my hotspot every time I start my truck.
Thank you for the tip. I’ll look for the app if I can’t get the truck to connect to my hotspot

I have iPhone / CarPlay without the data plan and my Apple Maps show the turn by turn on the HUD. Unfortunately I can’t replicate the turn by turn HUD on either Goggle Maps or Waze. I also have 2/3rds of the screen available with the right third a clock, blank google map, trailer icon and maybe one other useless widget.

I am pleased with the Apple Maps on HUD but would prefer more…..

Do you have unlimited hot spot connection. Im limited Hotspot on my unlimited plan. But I log in to Google account and can use maps that way. I dont have map or turn by turn on the HUD display. I have a 2024 gmc sierra 1500 at4

I can’t seem to use the Hot spot without the OnStar data plan nor will the Infotainment system recognize my home WiFi in the driveway even though my IPhone is connected. I guess I don’t understand why the Infotainment system works with Android / IPhone via Bluetooth but doesn’t recognize a WiFi source?

I feel Bayoucountrygal is referring to a phone Hotspot, not the Infotainment system Hotspot which may need Onstar data.
