High Clearance Steps

I greatly appreciate your timely response. I wouldn’t have picked these steps but they are on the truck and that’s really the only thing I wouldn’t have chosen about the truck. I feel I will be in the same predicament as you regarding my dad, as he complains about the new 1500 being too high, not to mention the 2500. My wife will ultimately have the say as she will be riding in it often. I will look at the Westin steps, I have been looking at the GMC Accessory store and found a couple I think I will like.

Any plans for the old ones? I feel like I will think I can sell them quickly and for good money but more than likely will have a hard time.
My parents have a 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab with 4x4 and they can get in it fine. And these new steps make it a lot more similar to them getting in their truck. I’m going to advertise them on Facebook marketplace but have no hardware to go with it. The threw the original steps back in the truck but I didn’t see any nuts and bolts. Too far to go back so if anyone wants these they can go to a hardware store and pick up what they need. I was going to order steps from realtrucks.com but then I saw the installation video. So let the trucks accessory place install them. Glad I did because they did it in about 30 minutes. They do so many that they are used to it.

Can you elaborate on the ppf film for the door jamb? Pre cut or did you cut it out of a roll and do it yourself? Seems like something I would think about doing. Thanks
I didn't actually put any on yet. I was just going to see if my installer had any extra laying around to put on.

My truck I am picking up soon comes with the high clearance steps which I don’t think I will like. Anyone care to tell me if they like them and if not, which steps to replace them with?
If you are in decent shape these are good. I’m 57 in decent shape. They are higher than an electric step. It’s a hike for my GF. The only thing that took some getting used to was the roughness of the texture.

Adding my 2 cents. I have the Gm black steps. They are lower and look nice but are really slippery when it rains or snows. I have almost busted my ass a few times.
I had AMP steps on my 2016 diesel and everyone liked them. However when it snowed melted froze snowed some more they were horrible. They froze up and didn’t function properly. I thought they were broke a few times but when the weather got better they went back to functioning properly. I want the high clearance steps with sand paper so I don’t slide anymore.

Well after having my new truck for a few days and using the high clearance steps I have decided they aren’t for me. 1/2 the time I hit the door jamb with my foot and eventually that’s going to wear the paint. Especially for passengers who don’t care about that. I tried the auto deployable steps while test driving and they were at a comfortable height so I am going to get something lower.
I just purchased steps off GMC accessories website. So my new high clearance steps are for sale if anyone is in South Dakota.

I have Westin R5 steps now and my mother can get in and out with no problem now. So now I can give them a ride if I ever need to. Also sold my old steps within a couple of days

Its so ironic how some of us want what we don't have or more like fit our personal needs. Its really too bad we all are not closer to one another so we could have a swap meet. I could get high clearance and someone could have my OEM GM black low steps. They are so expensive as everyone knows it’s like wasting $$$. Too bad GM couldn’t let us swap out at the dealership either but obviously that would be a logistical nightmare.

Are the GM power deployed steps not able to be installed by the dealer?
I am about to sign for a truck that has the high clearance steps, but they're too high for my wife. The price is right on the truck, so I was hoping I could purchase the power deployable steps and have the dealer install them.

Yeah, I don't think it's cost effective for oem power steps after the fact.

You would have to ask the dealer. I was in the same boat but just stuck with the high clearance steps. I think the dealer is the only place you can buy the steps that come from factory.

That’s a NO. They are only available from factory.
You’d have to buy aftermarket like Amp steps for $2k with a $500-$1k installation.

Was wondering if you got your new steps installed yet and if you like them? Please post a picture so we can see how they look.

I’ve had them for a month and finally made the time to put them on. It was easy to swap out old with new. The hardest part would be to pull out the plastic plugs from the unused screw holes. So far I do like the new running boards and they are a normal step height.

I got tired of the high step as well so I ended up ordering some brackets for the standard GM chrome steps and swapped them out for the high clearance brackets. I didn't measure how far it actually dropped the steps but it made a big difference as it's much easier climbing in the cab now. I liked the look of the high clearance steps and the new brackets bolted right up without any issues.
