GM to issue tailgate dropping recall. Now includes some 1500's. Turned into a STOPSALE.....

pavement queen truck type remedy; silicon tubes are 8-10" long and drive water away from switch.

After looking at the MyGMC app for information about the specific's on the recall, it looks like gm is including the Canadian half tons also. I did not received on for my USA '21 1500 Denali yet. I betting gm will include the USA 1500's soon. Did get a second email this afternoon for the '23 HD...

I have a 24 2500 AT4X AEV and I haven’t received a recall notice through email or the GMC app. I’m definitely concerned and I’ll reach out to the dealer to find out why. Thanks for he heads up!

I have the same vehicle too and my vin is not in recall list. Being cautious, I made the mod to divert water away from any switches below and that too because I had the material.

Is that where the bumper meets the bottom of the tailgate? That must be an HD, mine doesn't have that indent but my VIN comes up as a recall vehicle (2023 1500 AT4)
No, it is at the very top of the tailgate...

Well that's strange, mine does not have this design (2023 1500 AT4) yet it's flagged for the recall?!

Some of you have said that your VIN was not on the recall list. Could be because it was manufactured in second half of 2023? From Car and Driver:

Owners are encouraged to double-check that the tailgate has been secured before driving their trucks until the recall has been fixed. As for the remedy, dealers will upgrade the exterior touchpad switch assemblies to "use a new material that improves resistance to water intrusion." The change-over was made in production on August 1, 2023. Dealers were notified of the recall on February 1, and owner letters are expected to begin arriving on March 18, 2024. While waiting for that, owners can determine if their vehicle is affected by checking the NHTSA recalls website.

Anyone get a recall letter? Do they have a solution?
I was in at the dealer a couple weeks ago for another recall (firmware update) and they told me that this recall has no fix yet and that the temporary solution was to completely deactivate the ability to open the tailgate via the switches on the tailgate itself (inside button or remote only). I declined.

Was at the dealer getting my first oil change done on my 24 HD and I had the tailgate recall and the recall on something about the fog lights no turning on. The tailgate fix was to cut a wire so the tailgate wouldn’t open automatically. They said there was no fix for this as of yet from GM. I had no issues before of the tailgate opening but got them to cut the wire just in case.

How do you now open the tailgate?
