Fuel additives

I have no idea; its just an observation in my truck; perhaps it helps burn more fuel for more power or something.
I just noticed this as well. I just drove cross country towing a boat from Texas to Mass. I was using one product for half the trip and ran out and switched to the deiselKlean (?); anyways, mileage dropped to where I noticed. Nothing too crazy, maybe 1MPG. I ran a tank or two without it and the mileage went back up. interesting....

Great. I did not imagine it then. Having said that, I still continue to use a significant dose of additive every two or three tanks if only to keep the fuel system and fuel injectors healthy.

This is what I do

I used to use OPTI Lube XPD. With how dry ULSD is and the fact ULSD offers no lubercation, you should run something. Had 105K in 30 months on my diesel gate VW without an issue. It didn't use DEF but had all the other emissions BS. I don't know if I would buy a newer diesel at this point

I went through a bottle of Hot Shots EDT and noticed by the end of the bottle I was getting more frequent regens. Not sure why.
Ended up switching to Archoil 6500 and regens have gone back to normal or less frequent.
What mileage between regens is normal for you? And what were you getting with the EDT?

I use the Hot Shots EDT and find the truck runs smoother. My hope is the EDT will keep the injectors cleaner and the engine running smoother longer.

Without an aftermarket monitor how do you even know you're in regen. I've never smelled anything to indicate it's happening.

I do not have a diesel pickup. However, I drive a large diesel truck all over the country. I use Howes, Lucas, or Power Service when it gets cold. All seem to work very well and are readily available anywhere in the country. The key is to add some lubricity to this ultra low sulphur fuel we have to use now. The injectors and fuel pumps need the lubrication that the sulphur used to provide to function properly and live a long life. I carry a jug of some stuff the boss has in bulk at our shop. It's called Arctic-Prep. He gets it in bulk. I put a couple ounces in each tank every fill up. We have never had fuel system components fail in the 8 years I've been with this company.

I have the Banks iDash which helps monitor regen cycles, but I can also smell when the truck is in regen if I’m in traffic or at a stop light.

Sorry. Just saw this. After the bottle of edt, I would guess I was getting a regen every 50-100 miles. I don’t keep a log by any means but I was just noticing them about every other time I drove somewhere. Now with the Archoil, it seems like I hardly get them.

50-100 miles between regens?? Sounds like there was a major issue with the contents of the bottle or another issue with the truck. I get about 500 miles between regens on avg with EDT.

Did you drive a lot of short trips or let the truck idle a lot?

Very odd, I only get about 160-180 miles before a regen. I do drive a lot of city though and it does idle a bit. I took a long trip this past weekend 550 miles total and it regened twice, so a little better, but nothing close to 500 miles..

City driving and idling will definitely shorten the regen cycles. These trucks like to be on the open road to burn off the particulate. I do a pretty even mix of city and highway driving, but the shortest regen cycle I've seen was around 350 miles.

I'll try limiting the city driving see if it goes up then. I don't like the 160 mile regens.

I do use Archoil with every fill up as well though. Hope that helps it a bit.
