Exhaust

The Borla is the s-type and is louder than the GM. I just had it installed last week and sounds phenomenal

Back when I was researching it , people pretty much agreed that the cat back from GM ( made by Borla) was close to the "touring" version from Borla. The S type and Atak are said to have more volume than the touring. I went through several variations with my AT4, first just muffler delete, then I tried a couple slip ons....and eventually went with the GM system anyways. (Mostly because of a new law in NYS regarding exhaust.) But I have never felt the GM system was too quiet. It sounds nasty at a cold start and when you're on the skinny pedal. But it's not annoying on long highway trips or up hills/towing. Plus with the GM points from buying the truck, combined with some specials they were running.....it was very reasonable to purchase. Now I can say my exhaust is factory/dealer installed so I can't get a ticket.

Understood and thank you for your response but my question is what is the difference between the two options on the gmc accessories website for the at4x

I have been trying to figure out which version of the Borla muffler package is contracted for GM (literally on the phone with both dealership and Borla customer service today). No one (until now) has been able to answer which is the GM option (GM part number 19419437). The customer service rep at Borla said it is definitely not the ATAK (since there is a contracting agreement in place for that as a “after market option only”). So most likely (and I will confirm once I hear back) is that that part number for the 6.2L is the S-Type). Thanks for sharing the pic, I’m about to order mine).

The GM 6.2L Borla cat back system (part number 19419437) is the S-Type. Borla called me back and said that is what GM contracted with. Buying through GM may be a little more affordable than factory direct because of shipping costs. So I will order and once installed, will share with pics.

19419437 is the touring I think . Compare it to the picture on borlas website . The s-type has 2 smaller mufflers where the touring has 1 large .

I see what you are referring to. I was going off what the rep at Borla told me. I will inspect the box/contents when I receive it to confirm. I have trust issues with dealerships, so I don’t put much faith in their word. We shall wait and see. If anyone on here has a pic of the physical “s-type” on the muffler installed by GMC, that might help.

The two part numbers it shows me compatible with the AT4X are

6.2L Short Wheelbase Cat-Back Dual Exit Exhaust Upgrade System (for ZR2 and AT4X trims)

Part No. : 87816783 Price is $2395

and the second one is

6.2L Cat-Back Dual Rear Exit Upgrade System for Short Wheel Base Models by Borla® - Associated Accessories

Part No. : 19433388 Price is $1799.00

This one looks like the S-Type from the picture.

Was trying to figure what the difference was. Couldn't find this answer so I bought the cheaper one which the picture looks like the Borla S-Type from the photo

Having just bought a 2023 AT4X, I was hoping to be able to just buy a muffler instead of the complete cat back system. Anyone done just a muffler? I looked online for the Borla tuning and couldn't find just the muffler (so far), only the entire cat back system came up in searches.

I don't want "loud", but a little more rumble this engine deserves. I obviously don't want drone at highway speeds either. It doesn't have to be Borla, I don't care what brand it is, just want a bit more throaty sound but not obnoxious. Thought about just starting with the muffler delete and seeing if that would be enough. Watching youtube videos the delete sounds pretty good, maybe a tad louder than I want though. I would leave the flappers in most likely. Would consider a tuner to disable active fuel managment which it seems AFM can caue some issues cruising at highway speeds if one deletes the muffler or puts in a replacement muffler.

I went with the $1800 option from GM and I am loving it. It is the S-Type and was louder than I was expecting but I am not complaining. I am loving it and there is no drone when driving on the highway. As dumb as this sounds but I like having the auto start/stop on now because I like the sound when it restarts lol

I tried a couple different mufflers, the droning was awful and forced me to end up purchasing the cat back system anyways.

Thanks for the info!

If just a muffler swap = droning, that is excellent info to know! Droning is not something I want for sure. Just a little more growl, not a lot needed. It's not worth 2K of cat back cost/work for me most likely. I suppose if it was a guaranteed 1 mpg increase or something like that, one could rationalize it somewhat paying for itself longer term, but I doubt there is any real way to rationalize the fact I just want a little more growl. Probably just stick with the stock setup as is.

I appreciate the info/input - thanks!
