California or bust.

Wow, 200 acres! I didn’t realize I only saw a small portion of it. I was a little on edge with the sketchiness of the area and I wasn’t dressed properly to explore an area full of venomous snakes. I had flip flops and gym shorts and I was time limited. I will make it a point to go back.

Well it’s definitely not California but it is always an adventure. I’ve been doing this for 25 years this month. I just came off the Gulf into Mobile AL and I’m now headed up the Tennessee/Tom Bigbee/Black Warrior rivers to Paducah KY. I will be standing by to wait for these 8 barges to be loaded then picking up 1 more and heading to NoLa with 9. After that, we start the whole

loop again.

Awesome.

I’ve decided to just keep this thread going until I eventually make it to California. When will that be? Who knows. I just got off a boat in Louisiana and the need me to get on another one in Minnesota. I have a few days for R&R I’m going to take advantage of.

Well I’m finally off the boat after a 67 day hitch. Started in Bellevue IA and I’m making my way out to the Black Hills of SD. I bought a gold claim a couple years ago sight unseen. I figured I’d better go check it out. I made it as far as Yankton SD today. Nice place! Hot as hell today.

I got my scooter going 52mph yesterday. Probably not very smart. I was only wearing flip flops and shorts, no helmet and I may or may not have had a few Twisted Teas 🤪
What can I say, I’m GenX

In the heart of the Black Hills. I found a nice little primitive campground beside a creek. It took about 1.5 hours on a goat path to get here but I was rewarded with solitude. Theres nobody here. Hope the chupacabra doesn’t get me tonight. I even got a warm shower after putting my shower bag on top of the engine for a couple hours.

Of course I had to do a wine tasting of a 40 year old cab and a charcuterie board.
