2500 AT4 Color Choice

I really thought I was going to black out the emblems and switch to smoked side marker lights. I had been spending way too much $$ when I picked mine up and put it off. Not sure I will do either now. I've been very pleased with the color. I did get the front bumper wrapped black, partially to protect from bugs etc.

With that front bumper being black, I am thinking it's a good thing you don't have the painted wheel well trim.

First time I have seen a red one with body colored flares. I skipped this and might have made a mistake.
You can always add the painted flares at anytime. They don't actually come from the factory with painted flares. The dealerships swap those out if selected.
They're easy to swap out yourself, you can also find them for less than the dealer if you look around.
I like them with and without. Your truck will probably look best with the bumper and black flares.

Anyone initially intend to order a 2500 but in the end elected to bump up to the 3500? Giving it some serious thought, seems like more capability for not that much more money.

If you are getting the diesel you should definitely get the 3500. That engine is so much heavier that it takes a good chunk of the 2500 cargo capacity. Can be an issue if towing a 5th wheel.

Agreed....it they sold the AT4X in 3500, that would have been my purchase!

For an additional +/- $1200 its worth it in my opinion. Unloaded the helper springs aren't touching so the ride is the same as a 2500. If you need the extra payload you have it. Like Viking said the biggest problem is when you tow a 5th wheel. You may have the towing capacity for a larger trailer but your pin weight will put you over your legal limit.

Why can't you just put 3500 leaf springs on the 2500?

The overload spring bump stops bolt to the frame. The holes exists on the 2500 frame (same frame) but there is no easy way to install the threaded inserts.

Nothing is saying a person couldn't weld the bump stops on.

ETA... the frame is boxed. A person cannot get to the back side. Why all HD's don't have the inserts is beyond me for simplicity. My wag is it would keep people from adding the overloads to a 2500 making a 1 ton without paying the higher state registration tax.

I opted for a 3500 (gasser) as I couldn't tell a significant difference in the ride. However, I believe the leafs are different, not just counting the helper springs on the 3500s. One of the GM employees on the GM-trucks forum mentioned some of the springs engage sooner on the 3500.

I'm paying about $1400 for the year in NJ. Had a tough time finding a company that would insure it because of the GVWR. Didn't consider that when I bought it since I had no issue with my last few Ram 2500s, but the higher GVWR of my at4 HD limited my options.
