Wireless Carplay doesn't work without wifi?

Thanks all. Glad to see I'm not the only one with the issue.....I've even read that it could be the settings in my phone.

When my onstar subscription runs out, I'm going to try one more thing......Connect the truck wifi to my phone hotspot, and connect the phone to the truck Wifi?!? Circular logic, but who knows.........

I have this problem, as well. It used to work fine via my phone's wireless connection and now it requires me to connect to the truck's wifi.

I had connection issue until I disabled the iphone as a trusted device on the wifi. It still uses it though

I have had my truck for a couple months now, and have not come across this issue. I do recognize that Carplay must connect via Wifi, but I have not had to connect to the truck's hotspot. I have had issues with Carplay on my other vehicle not working when my VPN is on. Any chance you have a VPN on?

When I get in my truck, even if my Wi-Fi is off on my phone, the truck automatically turns on Wi-Fi on my phone so long as my Bluetooth is on ahead of time. It's probably the "Nearby devices" permission in the Android Auto app on your phone not being allowed. If you can't figure that out, try clearing the cache/data in the Android Auto app or uninstall and reinstall. That should take care of your problem. And also, if you fail to have Bluetooth on before starting the truck, yes, it will ask you to connect to Wi-Fi on the phone. So make sure you have Bluetooth or better yet, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi active on your phone before starting the vehicle.
