UAW strike prediction

I love the threads concept, Unions, strikes, inflation and by the way keep it apolitical.....lol

Its starts in the voting booth and we are getting just what a lot of you voted for. All that's going on now in the economy was predictable after the election.
Ya I blame Biden(or whoever is really running the country) for mostly everything wrong with America today.

Coundn't resist could ya?

I don’t post too much political stuff unless It jabs me just right. I know what the problem is. I can’t believe what is going on. If i could time travel I would. I wish i would wake up from this nightmare or maybe Im in a Twilight movie and I need to find a way out.

36% increase in base pay over 4 years, 32-hour work week with 1.5x pay for over that, and a return to a pension plan. Yeah, seems reasonable.

#EXACTLY!!!!! IT......IS.......INSANE to vote for a party every 2 and 4 years who's #POLICIES CONTINUE...CONTINUE TO HURT/DESTROY THE ECONOMY!! This is NOT the 1960's/70's!! Take your Feelings out of it and vote based off your WALLET which in turn will FORCE you to look at the POLICIES that each party/individual want to impose on WE the American People!..It's THAT SIMPLE!!

$21 billion dollar profits in six months this year is also reasonable.

The companies reported these statistics and you used the correct term - fact. Facts dont care what you believe. From Economic Policy Institute:
  • Profits at the “Big 3” auto companies—Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis— skyrocketed 92% from 2013 to 2022, totaling $250 billion. Forecasts for 2023 expect more than $32 billion in additional profits.
  • CEO pay at the Big 3 companies has jumped by 40% during the same period and the companies paid out nearly $66 billion in shareholder dividend payments and stock buybacks.
And don't forget the 2009 $80 billion dollar government bailout for an industry that made poor business decisions. Us taxpayers ate $9.2 billion of that bailout. I don't remember seeing a discount on my new GMC for paying the US Auto makers bailout in 2009. In fact the price has gone up every years.

GM workers received $12,750 and $9,176 for Ford workers, while Stellantis’ workers pulled in $14,760 in 2023 as per their profit-sharing agreement with the big three. Not sure I saw that bullet point while we are discussing facts here.

That sounds like a better bonus than 95% of workers in the US got.

Never said the bailout in 2008 was a good idea but I didn't vote for that president either.

Average UAW wage is $18.54 according to Zip Recruiter.

I have recently seen McDonalds hiring at $17.

You didn't keep it apolitical. I like to think of myself is independent, but I don't like people placing blame where it doesn't belong.

I'd like to hear your theory on how the last Presidential election affected the economy? Because this is a global inflation and the US has the lowest inflation rates in the world. Gas prices are rising partially due to OPEC and partially due to the summer heat shutting down refineries; this trend started at the end of the last administration and has been exaserbated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Food prices are globally high due the Putin's war, Ukraine is one of the largest suppliers of oilseeds and grains producers; also factors such as supply chain issues, labor shortages, etc. Lowest uenemployment in 54 years, this trend began in the last administration.

My point being administration policies move so slow that we're probably feeling the repercussions of 2 or 3 presidents ago.

UAW has a 2-tier system. The top tier makes ~ 33 / hr. The lower tier makes appx 17/hr. The 2nd tier also has less generous benefits.
Tiers start as hire date, 2007. Not sure how the profit-sharing checks get figured out....based on hrs worked or salary made.
