UAW strike prediction

I am guessing...yes.

Trucks are too expensive to go up much more due to a strike. Getting the feeling people are over with the dealer markups, too. Lots are filling up here in Nebraska.

I think its going to happen as well. The union demands are super steep and I don't know how they won't have an affect on prices. I think they've got to. Based on a Reddit post I made a month ago the responses were that almost everyone is paying MSRP and some are still paying a 5k markup. One dealer I called in Seattle had a 10k markup on the truck I was interested in. But then Idaho is only a little bit further away and I got the same truck for MSRP. Point is, there's not a lot of room for negotiation.

I'm guessing yes. From what I've read, the union demands will bankrupt the company and the Co. will never agree to them. So if the union stays steady, then strike it is.

I am with everyone on the Yes. If the workers get that kind of increases, it's worth them to walk. Companies will not lose profits as prices will just go up to us! This is how overseas companies have become so successful in the past. Their costs are so much lower that union manufactures can't compete. Unions were good years ago in demanding worker safety and better conditions but now it's all about the dollar. So, look for higher costs coming. My 2 cents.

GMC dealer that I'm talking with and trying to get an allocation with for an AT4X HD, told me that their GM rep said they expect probably a 1.5% increase in MSRP sometime in the near future. The strike will probably happen but I suspect it will be done by the end of September. I have read where the UAW can't afford to sustain all employees with all three automakers at the same time, so they will likely do a strategic strike of certain lines and plants, so some vehicles may not be impacted. For example, Corvette line at Bowling Green may not even be affected.

Mark another vote for Yes. The demands are too high for the companies to give. A strike will force negotiations. In the end any and all increases in costs flow through to the buyer, so expect to see price increases.

Another Yes and I think it will destroy the industry and financial tank the economy. We are on the edge of products costing way too much and paying the UAW more isn’t going to help anyone.

If there’s a strike wouldn’t this be beneficial for the dealerships? Less inventory more mark ups!

You would think it would, but talking to folks around here, they aren't going to put up with it and drive what they have, if they haven't updated vehicles already.

The dealers I know would rather move inventory than try to bank on markups to cover their overhead. After years of low inventory due to COVID, they are itching to get their sales numbers up and smooth out the gross revenues.

I find this concept interesting. My brother in law works at a dealership and sells cars. I personally cant stand him, however he loves these markups and has made more money in the last 3 years than his whole career. The dealerships here like Toyota and Honda are empty Chevy a few and GMC more. Not like it was before. They have like 2 salesmen at Toyota. Last time I was in there the salesman said buying a new car in the near future will be online purchasing only. One demo on lot and thats it. This is not how I like buying cars but if it is Im probably done buying new. Im also a big haggler. There is No dealing right now, at least here. They are moving inventory pretty fast and consumers here are buying like it was TP still. Unfortunately until this demand goes away prices will be high and dealers wont care much about anything else. My hope is the stupidity stops some day soon and we get back too some sort of normalcy. But Im in the twilight zone and my previous life was a dream.

I hope they don’t strike for everyone’s sake but I can tell you from purchasing my new HD yesterday, most everyone at the GMC dealership I spoke to is very nervous about the strike. I thought it was a ploy to get me to pay more, and it very well may have been, but I still got the deal I wanted.

I agree the salesmen are making more as they are usually paid on commission, so mark ups only help them. The dealers (owners) make their money on total units sold and more recently on servicing cars. When they sell more inventory, they usually get more clients to use the servicing offered at the dealer and that is where they make a big chunk of their revenue.

When I bought my truck I had to order it online due to low inventory and the owner and sales manager both told me this will be the future. The manufacturers want to move to the Tesla model where everyone orders direct from the manufacturer and cars get delivered to a local storefront. This model could lower MSRP's as it would eliminate dealership overhead and salesmen commissions, but the dealers are fighting this model as it will put them out of business (except for servicing).

I'm no expert in the dealer business model, just happen to talk to a few of them and listen to their concerns. All I know is when I ordered my truck from the manufacturer the dealer told me they weren't allowed to add a mark up since it wasn't their truck to sell. So I got a good deal on it while all the trucks on the lot had markups.

I recently got an allocation for a 2500 HD AT4X at supplier pricing. If the current price increases any then I plan to walk and order a Chevy 2500HD with the zr2 package or something else entirely.

I don’t mind paying for a vehicle but these constant price increases are insane. Pay me more an hour just so all the shit I buy costs more and I’m right back at the same place as before. Inflation is a bitch.
