why you would risk so much damage and potential issues to do this method rather than just plugging something into the ODB port is beyond me.

I guess I got lucky. My truck is a 2019 Denali, purchased with 55k on the clock. Nothing squeaks and it was garage kept, so it’s in excellent condition.
It’s a used truck, so I didn’t expect it to be perfect. And it’s got some paint chips here and there and the previous owner curbed one of the wheels in one spot that’s an inch wide.
The majority of the chips have been touched up and I bought a kit that matches the tricoat to handle things as they pop up. It’s a truck, after all, and I use it for work (industrial sales).
I don’t enjoy getting nicks and dings any more than anyone else, but it’s a part of truck ownership. It happens. And I live in a city with 4+ million people in it, so I’m careful and don’t sweat the stuff out of my control.
I bought the Range DFM delete that also turns off the auto start/stop. The first one I got was unreliable and didn’t work half the time. They sent me a new one with an updated flash and it works great now.
I’m slowly replacing all the fluids with Amsoil’s top of the line fluids. I use Amsoil Signature Series oil and filters. My employer pays for fuel and oil changes, so I’m running premium fuel as well.
I’m hoping since it’s not part of the engine or transmission recalls, it will give me many years of service.

My OBD port is occupied by a splitter for my iDash Pro and Power Steps.
