Tailgate switch - long press

I wish I did this just fucked my tailgate up and I had the Etsy switch blockers in. Everyone using them throw them out they don’t work it can still be pressed without you knowing see photo View attachment 33849
Just checking, the Etsy switch blocker only works inserted one way. There is a lip on on side and if it is upside down can still allow the switch to move enough to activate. Flip it over and it fully jams the switch at least on mine to allow no movement.

Might be worth checking. The other would be have you had the recall done? Mine would just release on its own due to the faulty tailgate module they did a recall on. They have to replace the whole thing. Possible yours released on its own.

A remote wifi/bluetooth relay switch would do the job to enable/disable the fuse.
Wifi/BT is much more than I need. I was thinking of just a regular toggle switch I mount to the fuse panel cover but the fuse is one of those slow burning square things and I have not found a way to do it. It is pretty simple to pull the fuse.

Anything remote and easy to use will definitely take some work.

I’ve had mine open accidentally a time or two. My solution to dummy proof the console switch but still keep it functional was to add another momentary push switch to the circuit. Cut the brown wire of the circled plug behind radio and add on to run it through a switch and back. Switch installed in the trim piece above the accelerator. Tailgate only opens now if BOTH switches are pressed at the same time (stock console switch and the added momentary switch).

Same brown wire is also accessible at the BCM plugs, but I felt a lot more comfortable cutting it behind the radio which was pulled out messing with a start/stop harness

Switch was from amerzon

I talked to the maker. It’s not designed for the refreshed trucks. I had the Etsy switch guard installed at the time of my mishap. He’s in the process of designing one for the refreshed 22+ interior. The one you speak of doesn’t fully block it from being hit and activated. Idk why gm can’t just give you a message that says your tailgate is open accept or ignore. Kind of stupid. And at $2200 to fix. Expensive accident due to shitty placement and lack of notification.

I like the idea of the long hold. I have had a couple of unintentional openings and I am not sure if I accidentally touched the switch or not. The alarm is part of a complete solution but if the tailgate has already opened and hit a trailer with a jack attached when it goes off its not much help.
Fortunately I don’t usually hook up a trailer and the 10x5 open trailer I have does not interfere with the tailgate even when dropped. I built my tailgate alarm primarily to protect valuable cargo and luggage when we travel to BC mountains etc.

Does the diamond back cover keep it shut or will it still drop on you?

The diamondback cover has no bearing on the issue. The alarm is simply intended as an alarm /indicator to warn me of an open tailgate condition, or if it is inadvertently dropped under any other condition. The DIC has a useless inner tailgate open indicator only.

My brother has a new one on a Tundra, the seal has made it tough to drop the tailgate.

I have installed additional seals around the entire tailgate to prevent dust ingestion. The tonneau cover is absolutely waterproof however the tailgate allowed ingestion whenever I drove on very rough dusty trails. The seals are quite tight and the tailgate does not always drop with the switch however I’m fine with that; keeping dust out is more important to me.

I bought the Esty thingy and it did not work, so I took a small piece of cardboard and folded it..slid it under the switch and now I can tap on it and the tailgate doesn’t open. If I push on it hard it would. I took a black marker and colored the end of the cardboard black…you don’t really notice it and it works great.
