Tailgate switch - long press

Thanks John!
I had seen your slide post/pix before.
I printed one, but as the switch is in the center, there is some flex, so it can still be pressed — but much less easily.
I was thinking of a relay that would only affect the dash switch. It would take 3s of dash press, convert that into a single momentary on signal to computer (as regular dash switch does).
I found some circuits online that are similar, but are long press on / long press off. Looking for long press - momentary on.
Until then, the slide trick is in place
Where did you find the STL?
i might print a few and make it thicker, maybe make it out of something softer like TPU

This is a pretty simple fix. The tailgate switch is a negative pulse output to the BCM. All you need to do is put a PAC-TR7 inline with the switch output to the BCM. Program the TR7 input to need whatever length you want to hold the switch for and it will output the negative pulse for the tailgate.

I already have a similar setup on my truck for my electric bed cover. Two inputs of the tailgate open button at the dash, tailgate, or remote sends a pulse to the bedcover to open.

The PAC TR7 is very simple to program from the included instructions.

Any chance there's a fuse you can pull that eliminates the switch, but still allows it to be opened at the gate itself? I have no need to remotely open my tailgate....haven't in 53 years.

No, momentary switch that engages ground making the circuit on the same BCM as the other activation points (key fob, tailgate handle etc.)

There is a fuse in the drivers side fuse panel to pull. It disables all means of opening the tailgate. I pull it when pulling a trailer with a trailer jack attached so no one that is with me can "help" by opening the tailgate right into the jack.

Yeah, good call out. I didn’t mention it as it disables all activation means for the whole circuit which it didn’t sound like he wanted.

Your methods gives a good idea though. Using a fuse tap on that fuse going to a switch instead would be very easy to wire and could provide a disable switch instead the cab. I basically have the same thing in my jeep so I can flip the switch when doors are off to kill the door switch circuit that activates dome lamps. This would be the same thing. I might do that. Flip the switch and kill the tailgate anytime you want without fuss.

I like that idea. Again, what was wrong with a handle and key lock…I don’t see a lot of house wives driving these trucks. Sorry Ry about the rant…ignore as necessary

Yeah I thought of that right away when I was researching this before a trip last year. The fuse is one of those slow trip fusses and I could not find a tap for that type. I would still like to find a solution, I would like to have a switch.

In my 2006 Jeep I simply pulled the fuse for door switch circuit. Interior light can still be turned on with the switch on the turn signal stalk.

My 2015 was the last year without electric tailgate lock. I liked it that way for pulling the same trailer. No one can open that tailgate on the trailer jack. If it was electric it would have unlocked with doors.
