Surprise results after disabling DFM on my AT4X 6.2

I roll a 2023 AT4x half ton and I recently decided to disable the autostop by way of a Carbyte. This little device sticks on your diag port just north of your hood lever in the cab. It also disables DFM/AFM which wasn't really a selling point for it for me...I just wanted the autostop stopped without pushing the button every time I drove. So a week now into having DFM disabled I have some impressions of being in full v8 mode all the time and I wonder if anyone else here has gone through this. This isn't really an AT4X specific thing obviously. But here we are.

So first impression is that we must be in v6 mode ALOT. Without knowing exactly when cylinders are shut off prior to installing Carbyte, I would have assumed were are always in v8 mode, and then if we get on the highway and set our cruise etc, it might toggle down to v6 and v4 mode if possible. In fact, v8 all the time makes my truck a completely different animal. Accelleration at any speed is faster. I should really do a 0-60 from dead stop with DFM enabled and then disabled for better science, maybe I will when I can get at some non slippery roads (Minnesota winter). I've had to adjust how I step on the gas at a stop light because I've nearly lunged into the car ahead of me a couple of times now. Without any good science, my impression is that I was running in v6 mode almost all the time. And the at4x is now a sports car.

On the topic of mileage, obviously there is a massive swing there. In pure city driving, I barely get above 10mpg. Mixed driving gets me to around 14mpg. And on a long trip where I was able to use the cruise at a modest 65mph, I was at 15.7mpg. Before, those numbers were 12/14/18 mpg respectively. For reference, I have no lift/leveling other than factory. I do have 295/65/r18's on it which is roughly the same height as factory, but 2 cm wider.

Now I really don't care about mileage. When I get a truck, I lift it, put big tires on it, add a grille guard etc...and immediately give up 2-3mpg for the sake of awesomeness. It just so happens this time around I didn't need to do anything to my new truck because it's an AT4x. But it would seem that without DFM/AFM, the 6.2 is almost unusable for most because we go back to 1990's fuel mileage. But I can't stess enough...my truck is now a completely different animal. Anyone else disable DFM and have similar observations?
Starting running Carbyte a couple of weeks ago on my 2024 AT4 for the auto start/stop delete function and have enjoyed the same experience with DFM/AFM delete. Truck is now a beast with power to spare at all speeds & rpm ranges. MPG initially dropped from 16 down to 13 and is now creeping back up, as I can feel the transmission adjusting to the new drive style. I do have the ReadyLift 2.0 SST level kit and am running 285/65/R20 tires. I’m very satisfied with Carbyte.

Am curious if anyone has used this device with the banks pedal monster on a refreshed model. If so, does an OBD splitter cause any confusion with the ECU since both devices require the OBD port?

Does driving in sport or tow mode keep the truck in v8 only?????

Does driving in sport or tow mode keep the truck in v8 only?????
No, it just holds gears longer or down shifts earlier, but it makes it more enjoyable drive! I have put my '15 6spd 5.3 in M5 (free v8 all time mode hack) and tow/haul mode since new. V8 mode all the time and always in the powerband. Got 265k before top end/motor troubles. No catch can, used oil life system for changes, and used/mixed oil viscosities as I didn't like using oil that was as viscous as water. 🤷 I actually drive my '24 3500 gas the same way. Towing or not, it's in tow/haul mode. I actually started doing this in '07 when afm/dod became available across all GMs. Yes, probably brings the ole mpg down a little overall, but I'm happy.

Sport mode does not deactivate DFM. Tow/haul I believe does. Another way to disable DFM as mentioned by @24Titanium3500 is to drive in manual mode and use the manual shift function to put the truck in one lower than max gear (commonly referred to as L9 if you have a 10 speed).

Your 3500 does not have cylinder deactivation. The cylinder deactivation is only in the 1500 gas trucks. I guess if you like the truck holding onto gears longer, tow/haul might act like a "sport mode" for you. Do the 2500/3500 trucks have a sport mode feature?

Thank you sir for your response. I've been thinking about running in sport mode. 👍

Yeah, I'm fully aware that my 6.6 gas does NOT have cylinder deactivation of any kind, nor does it have start/stop. They also do not have a sport mode. Off-road and tow/haul modes only.

Tow/haul alone does not disable/deactivate. Only manual mode. I just like pairing them together as my version of sport mode.

No problem. I have been tricking the afm/dod system for about 20 years now, problem free. Again, I did have to re-build my '15 5.3 top end, but not until 264,000. Most people aren't hitting those miles anyway. I've driven that truck hard in manual/tow modes since it had 4 miles on it. I also like the fog lights and tow mirror lights on full TIME. Just because I like the way it looks. Hit fogs, then turn light dial back. Fogs/mirror lights stay on, but headlights turn off. When people are in my truck with me, then notice my startup sequence, they have to think we're about to take off haha. 🤷 Makes driving it more enjoyable to ME.

The AT4X does NOT have sport mode for those wondering...at least my 2023 doesn't. I know the AT4s do; always thought it was strange the AT4X didn't have sport mode...

2024 AT4X 1500 does have sport mode. I test drove one. The only way to turn on the louder exhaust but I think that feature was new for 2024.

Interesting they would release it for the 2024 and not the 2023s. Also weird that it was available for the regular AT4, but not the X. Oh well...doesn't seem like I'm missing out on much...
