I had my ‘24 AT4x 6.2 lock up on the highway mid March at 13k miles, with my 2 young kids in the truck. That was an adventure.

At the time it looked like 2-4 months before a new engine (based on dealership saying they were waiting over 2 months for another 6.2 engine). I’ve been dealing with GM but they wouldn’t even really talk to me until it had been “in the shop” for a month.

The dealership was less than helpful and just treated the situation as a way to make more money off the ordeal (which I get to an extent, but they didn’t even try in good faith they offered significantly under trade value, and full MSRP on a new truck… and tried to make money off a temporary vehicle to bridge the time before the new truck could arrive…)

I ended up buying from a dealer out of state and shipping it here saving about $6k just on the new vehicle price. ‘25 2500 AT4x AEV.

Currently waiting on GM to consider my buy back request as regardless if the “issue is fixed” I don’t trust the 6.2. My constant pressure on the situation might have cut me in line as the replacement engine arrived yesterday, and might be in the truck in the next couple weeks.

Hopefully GM tries to make this right. Good luck to you all, if it happens to you be a squeaky wheel as I really do believe that’s the only reason an engine showed up quickly.

So I just received a call from my service at the dealership saying the engine has been replaced in "my" '24 AT4X and it's ready to be picked up. Many of you may not know but I traded it in earlier this month for a 2025 Ram RHO because I didn't want to wait on GM. In the shop from March 12-April 25 (I'm assuming that's when they finished it up). Now the SA tells me he knows I traded it in at another dealership and all but they can't release it to anyone but me so they want me to be inconvenienced and come get it and then take it to the other dealer. Think I'll have a chat with the service manager. I literally no longer own the vehicle as the title has been signed over and to my knowledge legally can't drive it.

I have a lemon law case pending on it, too, and last I heard from my attorney GM requested all my documentation so I guess we'll see what happens. Obviously it won't be a buy back situation, at least not from me, but I'm hoping to at least get a decent amount to help cover the additional money I put up on a new truck.

Good luck ladies and gents!

That's quite the situation you're in. Hope everything works out!

I wonder how long it will take before he finds out about RAMS reliability too? I don't really worry about my 6.2. As stated by other examples almost all the automakers are having serious concerns with their vehicles and QC. If mine blows up Im positive I will buy another GM but probably a 2500 again. I cant even imagine blowing an engine with low miles. It has to be devastating. Hopefully I never have anything but minor problems.

It is what it is. Do we really know any actual percentages of 6.2 failure rate? It doesn't seem we do. If I wasn't on this site, I doubt I would even know a thing about this. I also don't know of failure rates or other major issues for other truck brands, as I do not follow any of that as I have been GM for over 15 years (well, one year of Ram, and that truck did get the Ram engine tick lol).

I do have concern over my 6.2 seizing up. But probably wouldn't know much, if anything, about it even being an issue were it not for being a member here. I didn't have concerns about my 2020 3.0 baby diesel, but I had to trade that off because GM never could fix the emissions system issue. Problems happen with complicated machines. I have no idea if there are actually more major problems with these current trucks than older ones. That info may be out there, IDK. Mostly we hear ancedotal info on all of these things.

I think now with the latest findings submitted to NHTSA, they have narrowed down the seizing failures due to machining issues during a specific timeframe for specific VIN's. GM states it represents 3% of the engines on the road, so that helps put some things in perspective. As mentioned by others, people won't come to a forum and say "Just checking in to let you know everything is good". They may be the silent majority. 3% is certainly a lot of impacted folks, so hopefully they can get them back to whole sooner than later.

Purchased new AT4x in March (my version of late life crisis porsche). Was aware of the 6.2L issues through 2024, but purchased anyway w/ 10yr xtd warr. Coming from JeepW2K w/ Hemi V8 that in ECO mode shut down 4cyl. Hated that and always drove in any mode other than “D” to override this. After month in new rig, felt the shuttering, which freeked me out, because nowhere did I see that GMC also shuts down cylinders in D. Also difficult finding info how to maximize performance and other features. Was researching how to override this and the auto shutoff w/o having to purchase an aftermarket code override, and came across the suggestion of driving in L9, also mentioned in this thread somewhere. Has made massive difference in drivability and nice having access to all 8cyl. No idea if it will help with longevity, but like with my jeep, it always felt like not using all cyl would simply increase chance of something going wrong. (No science behind this feeling, just an old school guy missing the simplicity of the 1970’s). Anyway, love the rig and appreciate coming across this forum. Cheers. dp

I believe you're probably safe if you bought a 2025. They're very nice trucks! And the sound of the 6.2L with the active exhaust open....it's really good for a factory exhaust! Loved mine! Until it quit on me.....and I drove in L9 from the day I bought it (had a 2021 before it). But that didn't prevent the rod bearings from going bad. Hope you have the best of luck with your AT4X and it lasts you a very long time.

Just curious, were you working with the GMC dealership across the street from DAL? That is where I purchased mine, and I just want to understand how they are handling these issues.
Thanks

I was working with Ewing in Plano off DNT and Spring Creek

All I can add is GM has been good to us with major mulligans with our GM vehicles.
It takes time and perseverance.
Eventually a settlement arrives.
Our 2020 3500 DRW was a nightmare.

GM made it right and we love our flawless 2024.

Boy o boy the GM 6.2 and the Toyota V6 catastrophes should have never happened. Especially in the astronomical numbers reported.
Here in Calif the Dealers have 3 chances/30 days to fix it, on the fourth attempt refund is the law.

Any override or defeat mods will void the warranty and also red flag a smog check.
Gotta use the system.

We've lemon lawed a few vehicles over the years. GM the easiest to work with.

BTW:
Friend bought the new Hummer EV and it "bricked" on his driveway day one.
Needed an entirely new wiring harness.
The whole vehicle was torn apart in the process.

GM gave him a new Hummer and a check for his troubles.
Some dealers help with the replacement process, some refer the customer to GM.

We had trailer brake failure, reported it to GM, GM gave us $750 and a thank you and a GM engineer found the cure.
It wasn't the trucks fault, it was the braking system on the trailer.

We have first choice on a shipment of AT4 EV's coming into our dealer and I'm prepared to have to deal with possible issues, knowing GM will want to get it right.

"Loose your head and your ass soon follows." Don't be a jerk to the service dept.

We recently took a DCL Movie fan Cruise. Friendly Passengers with common interests and are chatty about those interests.
Like drunks, they make friends easy.

Seated at our breakfast table was a shift foreman at a Toyota engine plant. They are spitting out replacement V6's 24/7.
He was a super person, a super, genuine couple. Very well rehearsed on answering questions with well polished non-answers.

In our lemon law adventures we’ve found lawyers that just go for low hanging fruit easy settlements only and lawyers that take on anything and come in all guns blazing.

Pays to research.

My last two (one retired) were so good I recommended them to friends whose new Ram truck transmissions were grenading within the first week of ownership.

Stelantis was telling owners to go pound sand “you did it.”

Ford 6.0 & 6.4 Powerjoke “bad diesel fuel -not covered” excuse swore us off the Blue Oval for life.
