No everything mechanical is OEM. The only things I've done are the Boost Auto headlight mods and cargo light mods. Nothing performance related.
At this point, I'm waiting for the dealership to diagnose, which we already know what's going on, but it's a process.
So to give a little better sense of what I experienced yesterday:
I called the dealership yesterday morning and made an appointment for today since that was the first available loaner vehicle they had. I decided it would be better for me to just drive it there after work yesterday since I have a third vehicle at home anyway. So I left work and conditions were as they were yesterday morning. But I didn't get a mile down the road and it starts squealing and sputtering and I knew things were turning REAL South! The route to the dealership was about 20 miles but I thought if I could just get it there it would be fine. As I'm driving on the tollway in really congested traffic, it's sputtering and jerking and squealing...like an old beat up washing machine. I had my wife on the phone and she was able to hear it, too. The further I drove the worse it got and I started getting nervous. Traffic came to a brief stop and when I stopped...it died. Shit.....I managed to get it restarted and continued on my now perilous journey toward the dealership in traffic. And it died again. I got it started again, this time with a little more effort and kept driving but decided I should probably get off the freeway just to be safe. I took the next exit and of course came to a stop light....where it died. Got it started again and kept going...to the next light. And it died.....but this time it took a few tries to get it started again....and it struggled. I made my way through the intersection and finally decided it was time to call it....so I pulled into a parking lot and as I was backing into the space so the tow truck could have access to it....it breathed its final breath. Tried to start it again....and....Nothing. Click. No crank, no anything. And of course you can't get it out of Park at that point. "Conditions for shift not met"....yeah real good idea GM! The tow truck driver and I tried a few things and nothing worked and I eventually left, as my wife showed up to take me to the dealership.
After leaving the dealership in my loaner, a 2025 1500 5.3L Elevation (not awful by any means) I'm on my way home and I get a call from GM Roadside and apparently the tow truck driver needed me to come back and sign a damage waiver because they were going to have to put my truck on skates to get it on the flatbed. I don't think the guy was very happy when I told him I wasn't driving 40 miles back to where I left my truck to sign any waiver. He said "well they may not be able to take the vehicle without your signature", to which I explained that if that's the case, then they may have to find another tow service because I left my vehicle in their hands and it was Their job to handle all of that and I was NOT going back to sign a waiver. Besides I had a zoom meeting I was due on in about 5 minutes. I got a call around 7:15 from the two truck driver saying he was at the dealership and asking where to leave the key.
So now we play the waiting game. My advisor was at least very helpful and went out of his way to get me something to drive as I'm sure he fully understand the gravity of the situation and said I likely won't hear anything until next week, which is fine. At this point, though....I feel a bit like a fraud. Here I am last week explaining to the OP of this thread that I'm on my 2nd 6.2L truck with zero issues....and a week later my truck is DOA. SO can I really help quell anyone's fears/reservations on the GM L86 6.2L? Unfortunately.....No. And....it may be on the chopping block after it's repaired.
