Question about 2024 navigation in the infotainment screen

Sure. You can either use offline map updates so that you use no data on your phone or you can use your phone as a hotspot so that Google Maps running natively on your truck is fully updated and provides traffic updates. You can also connect to your WiFi at home so that any updates (including offline Google Maps) occur thru that connection. The truck will automatically switch.

The easiest way to think of this truck infotainment is that it is an Android tablet. There are more and more apps being validated for native use. Google Maps comes installed. Waze and Tune-In are now available. Of course, you can also use CarPlay. If you have heads-up display as an option on your truck, running Google Maps or Waze natively allows the guidance instructions to show up in the heads up display.

You would also want data if you plan to use Google Assistant to do voice control for truck functions (i.e. HVAC, radio, Google apps running natively, etc.)

Also, Onstar is not required for data connectivity. I currently do not have OnStar activated on my truck, but I am using the 3 year unlimited data plan (runs thru ATT) and I have remote functions enabled (remote start from my phone, etc.). My opinion is GM did the 3 year data plan so that it was easy for purchasers to fully use the infotainment and truck controls. They were trying to make it easy, but it really just became confusing. The truck becomes fully functional with a data connection (hotspot, GM built in data plan, etc.), not just the GM data connection.

My 2024 has the 3 years of connected services. I do not like being pushed to use their data plan. Sounds like we can use the offline map and the phone data plan?? Is that right? Other wise I will just use apple car play and Waze like I did in my ford
Rocky, I don't think that's correct. I just purchased a 2024 At4 on 26 November and I ONLY get connected services for ONE MONTH (I confirmed that on my GMC account); you gotta be kidding me! I thought connected services were for three years too, but if you read the window sticker carefully, it says remote access for 3 years, but then there's a semi-colon (fine print I suppose) and it says On-Star & WIFI data CAPABLE (that's the catch). I think all we get is "Remote Access" for 3 years.........NOT data (no soup for you:ROFLMAO:). Seems very confusing to me.

For reference I have a 22 refresh.

I don’t have Waze as an option to install as an app in the Google play store native to the truck. I can use it with CarPlay but your post reads like it’s an available app. Would love to install it and have it work with HUD. How do you find it/install it?

Here is a copy of the onstar plans from their website. The remote access plan is very limited in what it provides. I think the remote access plan is pretty much to be able to use the myGMC app on your phone and be able to lock/unlock remote start from your phone.

So, this is will be my first wireless Android Auto experience. Can't I just use Android Auto from my phone? No need for a data plan correct?

I bought data for a month thinking Nav system might be worth. CarPlay blows away the data plan and besides not seeing full screen nav system there is no advantage if you own a cell phone. GM is in big trouble if they think customers will be satisfied with their system going forward when they phase out CarPlay. You can’t even use goggle maps in satellite view on GM built in system.

Hold the talk button down on ur steering wheel. Don't just press it. If u do not hold down the "talk" button on steering wheel the "data plan" message will appear. My subscription also ended

Hey guys I have a 2024 AT4 2500 HD I bought new at the end of June. My OnStar trial subscription ended and I did not reup for any plan.…Today I noticed I no longer have navigation maps and it says I need to subscribe to a data plan. My question is that I thought it had a built in navigation system (for $75k I thought it would be included) does anyone know if it should or do I have some kind of issue with mine?? Thanks for any replies..
Hey there yzf1999, so here is the deal with your NAV. GM wants you to do OnStar, obviously. Most would love to have the OEM Nav without having to rely on there phones, connectivity, wifi, etc. As long as your GM/GMC/Cadillac has the IOS radio and is between the years 2019-2024, then you can add the OEM nav yourself. Take a look
This upgrade has been utilized by many over the last 5 years.

Going forward, GM has started to use a platform called "Can-FD". Essentially this is ULTRA-security at its best. Their goal? To ensure everyone uses the subscription service for as long as possible.

Take a look at your sales codes and see if you do, indeed, have the IOS radio, if you do, you can add the OEM nav yourself...and it takes about 90 seconds.

Hope this helps!
