A quart every 500 miles is okay with gm?

That has been their stance for at least 25 years that I know of. In 2001 my company had a 3500 with an 8.1 and it used a quart every 500 and they deemed it okay.

Sounds like the 2 stroke Detroit! I'd just change the filter once a year. No need to change the oil. It's always fresh!

UPDATE
wanted to update this, i am now just under 3k miles since i added 2 qts of oil. and believe it or not has not lost a single drop ! I have checked it every weekend and have been driving hard just to test this, as well as pulling a trailer about 100 miles. SOOOOO the only thing i can think of is that the dealership just straight up didn't put the correct amount from the last change.

My 2023 6.2 with 20k on it which passed recall test at roughly 17k miles back last Sept burns no oil. I checked it twice since the test oil change and still on full. I checked it a few times over the years because I’d read they burn oil and always at full line then.

Is mid way on the dip stick still good? or should i fill it to the top of the hash marks? what do you all do.?

Between the hash marks is 1 quart. You are fine to run it at the lower hash mark or a smidgen under the lower hash mark if'n you have an oil change that is due.

that sounds sketchy no??? should you ever run your hot running truck under the hash mark.??? I have always understood that you NEVER want to run any vehicle low on engine oil. Please explain. I don't want to be disrespectful, I want to understand the "why". thank you.

If you are anywhere in between the marks you are good. It's better to be slightly underfilled than over filled. When it's over filled you're risking leaks and blowing of seals due to the increased oil volume and hot oil expanding. I run mine between the half mark and the low mark.

If you're not seeing any oil on the dipstick that's when I would consider it too low. When there is no oil then it causes lubrication issues, wearing of metal to metal and could lead to catastrophic damage

I can't speak for what gm is doing on the new HD's yet, but I'm understanding the new LD engines won't have a stick.
