I have done a lot of searches and research before i decided to post this, just wanted to share.

I had my oil changed in my 2024 6.2 about 3 months ago at 16k miles. The dealership did a engine diagnostic on the 6.2 to see if it "passes their test" at that point they would either replace the engine fully, or mark it as Good and run the new 0-40 Mobile 1 Supercar oil... Mine was good to go and the new oil added in.

Yesterday I decided to take a look and check my oil only to find out the stick was bone dry... truck now has 19,500mi on it. I called my tech i always talk to and she says this is " normal" this is also what i have seen online as well. I ran to a few different Auto stores to find the correct Mobile 1 0-40 and added 2 qts to fill the top of the Full mark on the dipstick.

So my real question is ... should i just be ok with this as normal moving forward? be prepared to add a quart of oil every 1500 limes or so? I absolutely love this truck honestly, i love the way it looks and drives, I love the 6.2 power and sound with the 10 speed. But i would be lying if i said it doesn't make me nervous seeing all the failures with these things, Is my 6.2 a ' ticking time bomb" and I need to go 2500 Duramax?? or should I ride it out knowing the motor eats oil...

2 quarts low after 3500 miles??? I'd say either you have an engine issue or more likely, the tech that did the oil change short changed you from the start. I would NEVER say 2 quarts low is "NORMAL" no matter how many miles on it. My suggestion going forward...if you have a dealership do your oil change, check the level when you get home.

I have posted on this forum in the past regarding this very thing.
When I took my 2022 6.2 in to have the oil switched to 0-w40, I checked the level after 200 miles and it was off the dipstick. I drove straight to the dealership right then. They determined that it was 2 qts down but would not accept responsibility. Assumed it was using oil!!! Idiot! I monitored it after every drive and it never went low again. I messaged the service advisor evert time so that he had a record of the situation.

I wouldn't say that's normal. Also checking your oil every 3500 miles is asking for issues. Get in the habit of checking it once a week to avoid potential catastrophic consequences. And especially a day after the oil change.

Buddy of mine recently had his oil changed at the dealer and noticed burning smell over a week after. It finally clicked for him to look under the hood where he noticed the dealer left the oil cap off on top of the fuze cover.

I add a qt every 2,000 to my '24 6.6 gas. It is normal, per the manual. Along with the past GM trucks in the last 1.5 million miles. My current '15 5.3 with 308,000 drinks a little bit too. I just figure that adding 2-3 qts along the change interval is helpful as I'm introducing fresh/clean oil... 🤷 Every single truck made it well over 150-200k miles while drinking a little. Never had an issue, so I have considered it normal.

Yea. You take it to the dealer hoping to get at minimum average service but that is not the case. No way that thing burnt or leaked 2 quarts. They just put in what they put in most cars with an oil change and filter.....6 quarts.

I would not normalize deviation.

I had a 2009 Honda Accord that drank oil... there was also a recall for excessive oil consumption. It was such a low mile vehicle for me that the warranty/recall ran up on years/mileage before I really started noticing it.

I see the guy above says that his model says in the manual that the engine will consume oil. If it's on GM paperwork like that, then I guess it is what it is.

But does yours say that?
Very curious.
I also have a 2024 AT4X 6.2L, so I'll keep an eye on mine.

Me, being in California, I would be concerned about smog/visible emissions on inspection, and how the combustion of lubricating oil would affect emissions.

My 2023 6.2 with 20k on it which passed recall test at roughly 17k miles back last Sept burns no oil. I checked it twice since the test oil change and still on full. I checked it a few times over the years because I’d read they burn oil and always at full line then.

now you know it's full keep an eye on it , if it uses 2 quarts in 3k you have a problem for sure

It’s say 1qt every 2k miles .. not 500

I've had blown engines (think supercharged) that did not use any oil in 3000 miles. But that was 20w50 oil, not this thinned down oil today. But still.
