NEXTGEN Drivetrain valve body swap

I can clear codes but I do not have the ability to put it in to relearn. N and D both go forward and R is definitely fighting to move so something is not right. The truck did try to run properly at first. I really think a solenoid is stuck but didn't have the give a damn to drop the pan....again.
That might be the issue. If you can get access to something like an x tool d8bt (what I use) there is the option to go into relearn. If the codes clear then the issue is software not hardware. I couldn't clear any codes with my old VB in place. Codes only cleared when the new one went on.

Also what fluid fill procedure did you use?

I filled it until it ran out of the fill plug, then had my wife start the truck. Then I pulled the check bolt and filled until that ran out. Had her cycle each gear, including L, and then topped it off. Have not checked fluid since my very short test drive but it took about 17qts.

Just to clarify - you filled until it came out of the standpipe hole correct? Not the fill on the side of the tranny.

Are you running a stock pan?

Initially I filled it to the fill port to maximize the amount of fluid available to the pump, afterwards it was filled to the stand pipe, stock pan.

That might be the problem - too much fluid. Not a stuck clutch.

With the truck OFF - take your standpipe bolt out. Let it drain completely until it starts to trickle out - not a steady stream. Turn the truck on. Watch the fluid. If it doesn't trickle out - add more with the truck on until it starts to trickle out. Once it starts to trickle out - run through the gears. I paused at each for about 5 seconds and I did not go to L. Just D. Once you finish running through the gears (with the standpipe bolt out), look at the fluid. If it's not coming out add more until it does. Then close it up and go on a test drive.

That's the nice thing about the motive powerfill is it keeps fluid added unless you turn the handle to the off position.

There is a possibility that if there is damage to the VB, that the damage is irreversible and it will need another swap out. I also was worried about the tranny running dry but as long as you aren't driving and adding fluid you will be fine. Don't turn the truck off at any point once it's on.
